Is Jon Miller right?

At the end of last season I predicted he would easily be Iowa's 2nd leading scorer and 2nd best player. He is closer than I thought he would be to Kris. He very well could be Iowa's best player. Very unique skill set. The way he moves with the ball is very odd but hard to defend. We saw glimpses of his shooting abilities last season. He has a very high ceiling. If he comes close to his potential and Kris does as well this is going to be a very fun season.

Good post. Small sample size but Perkins appears to have taken a major step. He started out hot last year and had the shoulder injury which slowed him down for a month, maybe a little more. Really liked his 3 level scoring, aggressive yet under control play last night.

Probably the most important player on the team. A 5 with Bowen, Perkins, Sandfort, Murry and Filip is a team that will have to be reckoned with. Like the potential, a little small but could be one of Fran's best

I’m still not sold on him as a point, but I love the way he is playing. To me, Dasonte has a much higher ceiling at point because he is a better passer and ball handler. I’d say Perkins has a chance to be the best guard Frans had.

If he's half the player Woodridge was, we have a good one.
Yeah a bit early to make the Wooldridge comps. But I get it. Biggest things is for him to just be healthy. If he is, he will be very good.

I'm not convinced that Iowa can play the starting lineup they rolled out for the first game against good teams for big minutes. Need more ball-handling and perimeter defense. In an ideal world, Perkins is a combo guard who can instigate the offense if needed but also play off the ball. But I get why Fran is going with this starting lineup. Sandfordt is one of the best 5 players. Key to season, just my opinion, is how fast Bowen can become a real factor against good teams.

Yea. Nobody compares to Andre Woolridge in my mind. Dean Oliver was a great point guard. Jeff Horner as well. Since Horner, Perkins doesn’t exactly have a ton of competition to compare with. (I’ve always looked at Dev Marble as a point forward type player). Perkins could be in that Oliver/Horner discussion.

This. Let's see how does against full court pressure.
JMO, but I think it would be a very bad idea for a team to full court press against Iowa. At least 4, maybe 5, of the starters are capable of advancing with the dribble, and Iowa is great on getting the ball up the court quickly with long passes (in my mind, similar to what the great MSU teams used to do).

On the other hand, once Iowa is in the frontcourt, I would suspect that teams are going to try traps against Perkins.

I think Ulis looked very good last night. I like him starting with Perkins. Switch up who starts the offense and make other teams adjust on the fly. Bring Sandfort off the bench with Bowen and Connor.

So much flexibility with this team.

I loved Joe T, but I honestly think he would be the odd man out this year. Good move for him transferring.

TP appears to be a very hard-nosed player and is going to be the driveshaft of this team. JMO

And as we all know, Andre should have been B1G Player of the Year in 1997. Andre led the league in scoring and in assists. Instead, POY went to Bobby Jackson, mostly because the Goofs won the regular season B1G title (only to later vacate it because of program wide academic fraud).

History repeated itself last year. 😣

It was pure robbery, even without the academic cheating. He was a man out there.
Perkins certainly has a similar build (though it's virtually impossible to be as broad as Andre), maybe closer to Val Barnes in that regard. He's our most important player this year I think.

Love the comparison (and not just because I love Woolridge).

Big and strong for a guard, not blinding fast, but far from slow. Quick. Can hit the midrange jumper, which is kind of a lost art. And he can play the 2.

And he's tough as nails.

👍

By the way, would Andre's one-handed palm/dribble between the legs get called as a carry today? This stuff keeps me awake at night.
