Is Prohm a good coach?

He’s not, he took over a top ten team, underachieved with them and then turned the program into a last place B12 team just a few years later. Will miss the tournament this year and won’t be any better next year.

Prohm is like gard at Wisky. Both inherited teams with a very talented jr class plus Happ was a frosh at wisky. Now we see them with teams full of their own players and obvious both aren’t as good as their predecessor. Have a feeling both coaches first 2 seasons was the tom Davis effect excel his first few years with previous coaches recruits. Is he a good coach. Sure probably. Great no way.

Hollyburton gone. And I think there’s a little too much hype train there anyway. Whatevs. Every new player there is the best ever.

No one minus him impressed me at all tonight. Halliburton is good in open court which will transition well to nba but in half court not nearly as good. Remember after foster committed he talked about great relationship he developed with Halliburton. Funny thing he won’t be there to play with him because odds are very high he goes pro. Btw hope foster enjoyed the game tonight.

Hoiberg's teams got better just about every single year.

Prohm looks like he hit his ceiling after his first year.

He's still a fine coach. Surely he's not worse than Fran. I'm just not sure he's significantly better than fran either. Certainly recruits much more talent than fran but I think he kind of flounders with it.

Pretty good recruiter but his offense doesn’t have a lot to it. Pretty much just drive and kick to the wing. To make that work, he needs a little water bug PG to break down the defense. He had those at Murray and then obviously inherited Morris. Halliburton is good but he’s both their best passer and best shooter so he needs the ball more.

Overall, I think he’s underwhelmed with the talent he has/inherited.

I think he’s significantly worse than Fran. The biggest problem Fran has had is recruiting. Prohm has gotten or inherited those type of guys but hasn’t done anything with them. He’s proving he doesn’t develop players, he’s obviously not a good in game coach.

I’m gonna say “no he is not a good coach.” His teams have little to no discipline. Watching ISU is like watching a pick up game at the YMCA. If their 3s don’t fall they are done. Lazy on defense. Run down and chuck it or try to make a crazy NBA move down the lane.

Don’t know. He recruits to play run-and-gun and likely tells the recruits about a free flowing offense where they will have free rein to express their athleticism.

if he put too much structure on them he wouldn’t land the talent he does.

they are horrible on defense and their offense seems to only work running up and didn the court. They look like a lunch time pickup game at the YMCA when forced to play half court.

Considering the horses he's had at his disposal, I think he's been underwhelming. Better recruiter but I don't really see any individuals there that have progressed on a good upward trajectory since he's been there. Monte Morris was already a really quality point guard before he got there.

I've been hard on Franny lately, and he has certainly taken some lumps in recruiting, but he really made the most out of guys like Marble, White, Uthoff, Jok and now Garza. Now, for every one of those, we could certainly name 2 or 3 that didn't pan out, but he's certainly had more than a few that have been willing to run through a wall for him. We don't know how Garza will pan out at the next level, but the first four I mentioned had, at most,a cup of coffee in the NBA but had very good college careers that were on an upward trajectory throughout their time on campus. He maximized their talent to make them very productive players at the college level. That's pretty good.

Is Prohm a good coach?

There seems to be some debate on this subject on the CyToon website.
Which is funny.

Only a mere a month ago when foster signed, the whole region of lames was chirping about Prohm being some sort of basketball-guru.

I am drawing a blank on this and need help. What did Prohm do last year to our guys during the game? Did he aggressively bump shoulders with one for no reason at a timeout or halftime?

During the fracas he said he was going out to protect his players. Funny thing, the only guys he was laying hands on were the Iowa players. He lost his cool just like his team.

I believe Prohm is a good coach. Didn't he just won the conference tournament last year and won it previously as well. To me, I believe it's more of a culture issue. Iowa St seems to me to have a lot of me first players; guys that are looking out for themselves more than looking out for the team.

That conference tournament is about the most overrated exercise of all time. There’s only one team outside of ISU that cares, sometimes, that attends and that’s KU. No other team brings any fans, They might as well play it in Hilton.

If they are basing their programs merit on winning a couple of home games on a weekend then that might be the issue.

I understand your point but he had taken Iowa St to what, 3 NCAA Tournaments? Something like that. He knows how to coach. But when you have guys like Wiggington, Lard and others, those guys seemed to have issues. Those guys are no longer a part of the program and that has led to a drop off talent. Those 2 couldn't wait to get out of college.

I’m no expert on ISU anything but when we play them all I see is a guy standing up and shouting/pointing out stuff that seems to mean nothing to the players playing on the court. It’s like they are doing their own thing and coach is doing his.

Then what the heck is their identity? Offense, defense, rebounding, physical, fundamentals????

Looks like a coach who is way over-matched at this level even with talent.

First 2 years he inherited a great roster had nba guys like niang and morris. Especially his jr class with Morris and guys like thomas, burton and long. Kind of like Dr Tom getting Ravelings guys. He got all his tourney wins those first 2 years. He’s looking at now 2 of the last 3 years with no tourney (assuming they don’t this year) and now he has a roster that’s all his guys and next year isn’t looking too bright next year with Halliburton looking all but gone to the nba.

Last year had a talented roster and went 9-9 in conference and first rd loss in ncaa tourney. As for wiggington and Lard those are guys Prohm brought into the program.
