Is this even right?

Talked to a fella here about a week ago and this is what he had to say: (he is a Hawk fan)

"I hope Iowa loses against Ohio State (or the B1G championship opponent) so we (hawk fans and team) don't get embarrassed in the college football playoff."

At first it hit me and I really didn't know what to think or how to respond. I am a die hard Hawk fan and love what they have going on this season. I can see how many "fans" are intimidated by the big 5 star programs such as Alabama. However, I'm not sure if we win but I do not think we would get officially embarrassed. Personally, I tell people, this is as close as we have been in the longest time. Its time to reach for the stars, we are so close and have a decent route.

Just cannot gather of how you would want your program to lose so we don't have to play in the final four….You're one chance in the longest time and you want to lose?!?!

Plus, we will most likely have to play Ohio State who is a top 4 caliber team. Just lost for words I guess. Thanks for listening to me vent.
 
I know last year we did get blown out (both Minnesota and Tennessee) but last year was a weird year. Other than that we have almost never gotten blown out, even when playing really good teams. It seems like Hayden's teams got blown out with more frequency. Our style of play under Kirk tends to lead to close games whether we are playing Ohio State or Iowa State or any team in between.

Okay, let me switch this up.

Would you rather:

1) Lose in the B1G championship, win the Rose bowl

2) Win B1G, lose in Final Four

To me, its obvious.
 
I'll take getting blown up in the playoffs. Recruits see that we got into the toughest post season of all sports. It's really an accomplishment. Then a chance to win NC; recruits like that.

I don't understand this fear of success with some of our fans. Thankfully the team doesn't seem to have this problem.

(I also don't get what is "embarrassing" to you if the team loses big. It's not like you will have had anything to do with it. Unless you chant I-O-W-A too long after a score and cause the D to give up a string of late scores. )

I love this team but to beat OSU it will take 3-4 takeaways and Iowa to play error free ball. I believe McShay said recently that the Buckeyes have 8 of his top 32 players in College football in their starting 22. They have played pretty uninspired football most of the year, but that will change tomorrow when they destroy Sparty. I hate the Buckeyes and Urban in particular, but I will be amazed if the Spartans keep it within 30 especially with Cook hurting. Go Hawks!
 
Definitely prefer winning the B1G and see what happens, because you left off #3 in that scenario... Lose CCG and then lose Rose Bowl
 
Pretty sure Florida State doesn't regret making the playoffs last year even though they got embarrassed by Oregon. Then, depending on your definition, you could say Ohio State embarrassed Oregon 42-20. Wisconsin truly got embarrassed 59-0 but I think that was somewhat of a fluke (that was a good Wisky team that went on to beat Auburn in a bowl...the same Auburn who had been in the playoff committee's initial top 4 rankings.) Anyway, I can't believe Wisconsin regrets winning the West last year.
 
Well, FSU and Oregon both got blown out in last year's playoffs. Pretty good company if we make it.

And option #4: Win B1G CG AND NC! As stated earlier in the thread, if we can beat OSU we could beat anyone else in the playoffs. Maybe I am way off on this, but I don't fear Alabama. For some reason they don't strike me as the powerful team they have been in the past. I am more concerned with getting blown out by OSU than Alabama or Clemson.
 
We will not get blown out this year, by anyone.

Beathard is one of the best quarterbacks in the country. As long as he's healthy we have a chance. He's a bigger Drew Tate, an NFL Drew Tate.

Do I have to post this again? Unbeatable champs always, eventually, underestimate the task at hand. Give me a puncher's chance vs. OSU, and after that everything is house money. Would be the biggest win of the modern era for Hawkeye football.

Win....always choose the option of winning. We are undefeated. Why would any fan want his team to lose to go to a lesser bowl game. We are talking undefeated and a chance to be in the playoffs and drive the entire college football world crazy because we made it and don't "deserve" it. This is such a fun ride.

I was just making sure my head was screwed on right. I am on the same page as going to the final four even if we lose. Earlier poster asked why I would be embarrassed if we got creamed to say Alabama. I wouldn't be at all. Would be so pumped if we even made the final four. I think some fans are nervous to go to the final four and get pummeled and then have to listen to the radio and tv heads prove how right they are. Thing is, if we beat OSU, we have already proved them wrong, AGAIN.

A human being is out there worried we're going to be undefeated and get blown out? That is a super weird thing to worry about. Why do we wonder why humans blow themselves up to kill other humans? There is NOTHING the human mind can't convince itself is reasonable.

While a Rose trophy would look great next to the Orange Bowl trophy, I vote for winning the Big Ten and playing in the national championship semi-finals. I don't understand the thinking of those that wouldn't want to be in football's final four.
 
This HAWKEYE team fears no team and will not get blown out by any team they play, FOR THEY WILL WIN OUT!!!!!!!!!!

To me we are in a 5 game single elimination playoff right now for the NC...if we can run the table and beat the B1G East why would we be afraid of anyone else..?? Alabama scares me more than Clemson, ND, or anyone in the PAC or Big 12...

I don't have the confidence in this team I did have for the 2002 team. I honestly believe iowa was number 2 that year behind USC. The orange bowl was the national championship in my opinion. USC didn't play our brand of football and we didnt prepare as well, so they beat us pretty good. With having said that, I don't think we would get emarrased but the stars would have to line up for us to beat a Alabama team. Either that or have a game plan that would totally throw them off and be extremely efficient on O and D. We have a chance but maybe 15 to 20%. Either way, I love this team. Just a little more strength on the D line (pass rush) and our recievers (more seperation speed) and I think we'd have a good chance...add better pass blocking and we'd have a great chance.
