ISM 100 yards to the house

Imagine what I think of most of you guys.

At least I'm not potentially destructive to Iowa football
I rarely comment here so I’m not sure where I fit into the you guys part of it.
You were post #4 taking a jab at people in a celebration thread. It’s like you’re trying to stir stuff up sometimes. I’ve seen you completely blow up topics because someone had one criticism.
It’s not that serious. It’s a message board. This is what it is for.
Also if recruits or coaches or anyone else bases their opinion of the University on random message board complaints or opinions they probably aren’t worth the time anyways. Unless of course someone crosses the line to threats or something uncalled for.

It's more about multiplying negativity in the community. It's like littering. It can't possibly do any good.

If anything, the negativity can only hurt the team.

It doesn't matter if every complaint fans ever had were 100% accurate and valid. Voicing them in public serves no constructive purpose.

I don't appreciate it. It doesn't give the team that I root for the best chance of winning.

Not to mention the blatant disrespect of these athletes and coaches. It's offensive, and I believe, worth fighting against

I get it. I commend your love for everything Hawkeye. I really do. I too love The Hawkeyes.
It also doesn’t look good when people are talking about others before the others even say something. I’m pretty silent on here but got lumped into “you guys “.
Everything people say that you don’t like can cause a derailment which just gets old. Carry on that’s all I wanted to say.

Well said.

Didn't mean to lump you in at all.

Most of them know who they are

Quiet. Fans would rather believe Iowa hasn't put any receivers into the league
Nice narrative, other than the fact no Iowa fan says that. In fact, most Iowa fans lament the fact Charlie Jones’s talents went to waste while in Iowa City or that guys like ISM and Marvin McNutt are too far and few between.

Get over yourself, Brian.

In all fairness, I know of NO UIowa fb fans anywhere who deny Iowa’s qb position has been under qualified the past 4 years…and honestly it’s been several years (6-8) since the Hawks have had a “good one”…Honestly, other than one or two receivers, Ferentz has never had a great one of those, either.

I don’t think any of that is in dispute, Joel.

I don’t think it is either…I do think it is a fact that is conveniently forgotten though. UIowa doesn’t need a “great” QB, they need a guy who plays smart and doesn’t throw the call away. The last 5 years that QB has not worn an Iowa jersey. This fact, plus really substandard o-line play in ‘22-‘23 has greatly hindered the UIowa offense. UIowa football is one of the few P-5 football teams that is designed to win games by scoring 24 points a game. For the past few years, Iowa’s offense would ge greatly challenged to do this however. Hopefully a more adequate QB and better o-line play will allow UIowa to score 24-35 points a game going forward. This year’s offense was a huge step forward over the past 2-3 seasons. But damn, the Hawks got to get themselves a QB who can threaten the ball downfield with a forward pass.
UIowa football under Kirk is always going to be based on defense, special teams and field position. That’s what Kirk wants to do…and it works. They need to find an offense that is capable if taking advantage when the advantages present them self!

The OL, as a unit, hasn’t been good in a long time, although they were much improved this season. That’s problem one.

The other problem has been the lack of talent at WR. When you look at the years Iowa has been good offensively, the quarterback had playmakers at receiver and TE. Banks had CJ Jones, Mo Brown. Clinton Soloman, Ed Hinkel, and Dallas Clark. Ricky Stanzi had DJK, McNutt, Stross, and Moeki (when healthy). Stanley had ISM, Brandon Smith, Fant, and Hock. Petras was inconsistent as a freshman but the offense put up around 30 points/game because Petras had receivers to throw to.

IMO, other than Deacon Hill, I don’t think quarterback talent has been as much the issue as lacking talent at the receiver position (and Brian Ferentz being in over his head as OC). Hopefully Tim Lester can convince 1-2 receivers in the portal to jump on board now or during the spring period. Otherwise, Iowa is going to continue to suck on offense until they can get a couple receivers capable of getting open and making plays downfield.

You were born in the wrong era. You would have made a solid Inquisitor. Or brown shirt.

Petras was horrible! He was inconsistent at best..couldn’t throw the ball 10 yds downfield..Sorry…
I don’t have the vitriol most here has towards Brian…my question(s) would be directed towards Kirk… why put Brian in that position ( as OC)… and how did you miss so badly on finding a QB recruit from 2018 thru 2024… both those are in Kirk….Brian might have been “over matched” as OC but as OC Brian did manage to out score the opponents almost 70% of the time. If someone is to blame, it’s the HC and not the OC.

I would argue people like you whose loyalty to a coach is greater than loyalty to a program is a greater threat to the health of that program. Iowa's offensive woes lie solely at the feet of Kirk Ferentz. He is never going to allow any kind of dynamic offense because he wouldn't be able to control every aspect of it. He sees offense as a necessary evil at best. On top of that fatal flaw, he attempted to position his son to take over the program after his retirement. In doing so, he promoted that son to a position he was woefully unqualified to fill. He then doubled down by adding QB coach to his OC title. That son would still be OC if the AD has not intervened.
Stifling criticism is far more destructive to a successful organization than allowing free speech

Petras was horrible his last two years. His first year as a starter he was inconsistent. The arm talent was there. The problem was Petras is a statue and the OL couldn’t protect him. And, again, he had no one to throw to.

I don’t know where to begin ripping to shreds your defenses of Brian. My god.

My loyalty to KF is not greater than my loyalty to the Hawkeyes.

Yeah, gosh I can really see the problem with being loyal to a coach who's had over two decades of success.

Not sure why offense is being discussed when evaluating a coach.

I don't agree with anything you've said in your first paragraph other than Brian probably shouldn't have been QB coach. NONE OF IT.

Free speech does not equal appropriate action.

Chronic fan negativity, if anything, can only be destructive. It doesn't need to be compared to anything else

I see it that KF has figured out what formula allows Iowa the best chance to win games…and it begins with defense not offense. Ball security and field position are prime importance If Iowa is to win games. His offense is all about ball security being of primary importance. He’s not going to throw it all over the ball yard trying to score quickly.
