ISU & Hawkeye recruiting

Jmho... ISU has turned things up a notch, getting some promising talent (Colbray), but Iowa still comfortably leads them.

I tend to look more at top #1 or 2 at their weight class and top 10 or 20 p4p, as I think those tend to yield more team points at ncaa tournament.

Not to hijack the thread, and beating ISU is nice, but the real target is PSU. For many years now, they've been landing the bluest of the blue chip prospects... Megaludis, Guilibon, Retherford, Taylor, Ruth, and more recently Nickal, Nolf, Neville, Joseph. Now they just got Hall (probably #1 p4P)

Iowa has a potential superstar in Alex Marinelli in that elite group. Kemerer and Mejia are a couple of others. But overall, Iowa has some catching up to do in the recruiting process vs PSU.

If you add up the last 5 recruiting classes and average them Iowa, OSU and OkState were all ranked ahead of PSU the last 5 years.

Yes, it's amazing what Cael can do with sub-par talent.

Does Iowa have "sub par" talent?

2008. Iowa #6, PSU NR
2009. Iowa #5, PSU #8
2010. Iowa #1, PSU #2.
2011. PSU #4, Iowa #20
2012. Iowa #1, PSU #17
2013. Iowa #6, PSU#7
2014. PSU #1, Iowa # 9
2015. Iowa#10, PSU #21.

ed - i was just joking. but the rankings cited (Storr, Parker etc) were HS rankings. so i thought you were taking issue with the hs ones. sure, hs rankings don't much matter when the kid is a soph or jr etc in college, but as they stand now based on performance, i think they're pretty much in the right ballpark.

as far as Gulibon - i don't think any ranker - CP or Hipps or anyone else - felt very strongly about anyone they put preseason #1.

as far as streaming all the Hawk matches on FLO - show me where to sign!
I agree very hard weight t rank, but if there was one guy you couldn't rank 1, you found him

I'd much rather have our rivals be uni or isu then tosu or penn state.
How does this make sense? At all? The hawks would have a chance to win?

If you look a little deeper, you see that when it comes to recruiting of the top 10 ranked HS wrestlers, all weight classes combined....PSU has consistently beat Iowa (and most everyone else) almost every single year in the past 7 years.

Using D1CW, here is the breakdown in the past 7 years for the very highest rated wrestlers:

Iowa:
1 top 5 wrestler - Evans was #4
3 top ten ranked wrestlers - add Kemerer #8, and Ramos #10

PSU:
10 top 5 - #1 Taylor, #1 McIntosh, #2 A Alton, #3 Megaludis, #3 Guilibon, #3 Retherford, #4 Nolf, #5 Ruth, #5 Vincenzo, #5 Nevills

12 top ten ranked wrestlers - add #7 Nickal, #8 D Alton

....it ain't even close.

True but it does not dispute anything I posted. Both schools have the same number of scholarships. Cael used the money for higher end talent but he has walk ons as backups. Other schools spread the money around but have less high end talent. Which method do you prefer?

At Penn state David Taylor is a "walk-on." Can you stop already?

Stupid post. I never said Taylor was a walk on.

Our current 285 Johnson is a walk on. James English was a walk on. When the Altons went down he was an AA. James Volrath was also a walk on. He went undefeated in the B10 and 4-1 at the Southern Scuffle when the second Alton went down.

You had the same scholarship money as Cael. In the last 7 recruiting classes, Cael got 12 of the last 70 top ten recruits. OSU, and OkState are also up there.
