The portal is Iowa State's chief recruiting strategy. It's not Iowa's, agree or disagree
Iowa State is bringing in more 2022 HS kids than Iowa too.
And the "one more" will be a doozy . . . . . . .AJ Green.
Hard to imagine he's not going to go play for his dad at ISU. NIL stuff aside, it seems like every school is hiring a new assistant just to immediately have some star player transfer in with connections to the assistant (see Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Minnesota etc.)
We will not get 1 person in the portal!!! ISU just mops up and we get nothing. Frustrating as a fan to think they had all this time and we come up empty
I'm glad Green brought his defensive before he brought his son tho. That was nice.
No, we play them every year and compete against them for some recruits though not too many. After a 2 win season they whipped Iowa's ass and accomplished a sweet 16 (which Fran has never done) with a first year coach and the transfer portal is why. But keep burying your head in the Iowa soil if it makes you feel better
I can't stand ISU but their coach deserves a lot of credit for being able to sell Ames, IA to young people
Iowa State has always had more success with blended recruiting classes. Prohm I think wasn’t effective in doing that since his transfers were never impact guys.
Iowa has had all of its success from recruiting guys who were solid and would develop and be here for their 4 years and then the guys behind them would be ready after they transfer. With the NIL Iowa might have to change that plan if guys decide to transfer out of the program and we need to replace our guys with recruits who are ready to contribute who are in transfer portal.

Holmes - meh - a sg who shoots under 40% from the 2 and under 30% from the 3? 🤣
Ward - meh - a pf who averaged 6.5 ppg and less than 5 rpg in almost 30 minutes at VCU? 🤣
Williams - meh - a pg who is not a scoring pg, will need scorers around him. Not seeing it.
King - has a pulse, averaged ~15 ppg and ~6 rpg at Easyern KY. Shot just under 50% from the 2 and ~33% from the 3. Looks to be a solid contributor but not a star. There is a reason he was at Eastern KY. And then there is the question of why Georgetown didn't accept him - "conduct"? Hmm...
Osunniyi - has a pulse, good defender, but if he leads ISU in scoring they're going to have a long year.
There might be more but adding this to the returning lineup doesn't seem that great, even if they add Green.

I know you don't read this board but I did already. Not worried as I have seen what they can do together, and the players coming in were highly thought of coming out of high school.
You should be in good shape next year, then even with no new additions and Kris goes NBA. Beat of luck.

We really just need one inside player and can't get that, which was my point. the 6'10" rim protector ISU just got would have fit like a glove. I'm not for redoing our roster every year and buy into developing our own players. With that said, early NBA exits force us to consider taking someone to fill the gap.
Just a thought and I may be completely off base.
Could Fran not be recruiting transfer players in order to strengthen his pitch for high school recruits? Not going to recruit a transfer over them?

Did you look at other 4 the recruits they have brought in that you touted? Not so hot. But in your mind "they've done very well" and "it seems like we don’t do well here!" You do realize that Iowa maintained the bulk of their roster for next year and has good recruits coming in, right, fellow Hawkeye fan? And that Iowa is ranked already for next year? And Iowa State is not?
And regarding who has been a fan longer, I can't say. But I can say that I went to the Iowa men's games starting in the 70s until the pandemic hit. You may have been a fan longer but after that much time it really doesn't matter. You won't catch me starting a thread praising ISU and bashing Iowa.
I think if you assume ISU gets AJ Green, he's your replacement for Brockington's production.
Holmes and Williams can replace Tyrese's offensive production.
Ward and Ossunniyi are huge upgrades to Conditt/Jones.
Bart Torvik would have ISU preseason #26 if they sign Green. They'd be set up well.
This post seems almost solely focused on the offensive end of the court. Yet to be seen how the pieces fit together, and without Green doesn’t look like an offensive juggernaut. Yet to be seen if they have a guy that can go get a bucket like Brockington did last year, but looks to have upgraded athleticism and defense over last year. With Green likely won’t have the putrid scoring games they did at times last year. Hard to compare to Iowa roster construction which seems more offensive in focus. Shall be interesting to watch team identities unfold.
I want to make sure I have this right. First clown fans mock Fran for giving the Murray Twins scholarships and now they are desperately hoping they both leave early and go to the NBA. Man clown fans sure know basketball talent when they see it. Just ask them.

Tremendous job by Fran getting them and being on them early. ISU fans weren't the only ones who thought the offer was weird at the time it was extended, you can look at the thread on here. A lot of people thought it was just a legacy offer.
I don't care if Kris comes back or not. I think he should come back but I'm also a fan of college basketball.
ISU basketball is exciting to me because I'm a fan of it. If I wasn't a fan of ISU I probably would never watch one of their games because the style of play isn't what I want to see. However, it's what they had to play last year and I laud the team for getting a lot out of a little bit of talent.

Your team struggled to score 60 pts WITH Brockington and Hunter. I don't care how good you think your defense is going to be with a bunch of new people who will have to figure out how to play together.
Do you get it at all? Last year they had two players left on their roster and ended up beating us by 20 by using the portal. This year they are rebuilding again with the portal and will likely add the asst. coach's kid. That will work out pretty well. We lost Keegan which was our leading scorer, rebounder, defender, and just about anything else. We might still lose his brother. We need to get a player in the portal. It's that simple. I'm done trying to explain it to you.
I am not convinced any school can expect consistent on-court success if they have to rebuild each and every year with transfers.
Maybe I will end up being wrong but one year is not yet a trend.
Nope, we're quick to post about them when they suck, so... I guess people just don't want to hear about ISU when they are outrecruiting us.
My complaint was about the slam to Iowa. Recruiting is a hell of a lot more than losing and getting 4-6 players from the portal every year.
Hunter was not a good offensive player last year by basically any measurement. We'll miss him, but we'll mostly miss what he might have become as a junior, not what he was last year.
Last year they had more new players and figured out how to play together. It's not some impossible task.
Nope, as long as push, grab and hack defense is allowed 44 points can win isu games. Clown fans can then run here to tell us how “exciting” it is to watch games played that way.
