It's not that we got beat bad, we knew we would, it's that we played so scared...

Rebraca still not good though he plays hard but is limited and would be coming off the bench on alot of big teams, early yet but against decent competition Iowa has looked bad twice.

The only real players with mental and physical toughness were... Bowen and Rebraca. The rest (excluding the deep bench like Josh O and Josh D) were a bunch of wimps...
I thought PMac played pretty tough (for him), Ulis was not great but did not look scared at all, just missed a few easy shots. Saucy looked a little wonky. CMac was just overmatched by length and athleticism.

PMac and CMac weren't that bad all things considered like you say. Ulis wasn't impressive at all. I thought he really hurt us tonight. Just didn't set the tempo or flow of the game tonight at all. Same with Perkins. Bowen would have been much better I think...

PMAC played tough by his own standards, but got shut down because he isn't really a star. He's just a so-so player..not great shooter, no post game at all, and has to take tough floaters and hope for friendly whistle.

If Kris Murray isn't having a great scoring game, the rest of the gang gets exposed because collectively they are
mediocre right now.

Sandfort and PMAC are both in 3pt slumps and CMAC has trouble getting his shot off.

You dribble around Tall...Duke also had athletic guys. TCU beat this Iowa team too with athletes/physical play.
Lets see how Iowa does vs ISU...another loss won't bode well.
I have a real bad feeling against ISU. I don't think we win that one. I think we stand a decent chance against WI.

This is the first Iowa game I have watched. Was Duke's D on Murray better than average or did he just have a bad game?

Duke played Murray tough like really good teams do - just like TCU and Clemson so far; with fairly similar results unfortunately.

Kris needs to figure out a way to be effective against athletic defenders that focus on him defensively.

Some of both.

Hes still trying to figure out what to do as the focus of the opponents game plan.

Hes not really a post player or an iso player.

More of a catch and shoot guy, who scores off rebounds and can attack the basket off the closeout.

If he's not hitting 3s hes not going to score a lot.

He doesn't have the back to the basket game his brother did.

Thanks for your and skydog0784's replies. Wish you would have won, but probably not as much as you guys. Be well.

For sure both. They took him out of his game but he air balled 2 shots and absolutely threw up bricks. Also missed some fts. I think he will get it figured out though.

This….

I thought we’d win this game.

Duke is going to lose a lot of games this year. Probably 10 or more.

We’re just that soft/bad.
Based off what? Duke losing to Kansas and getting walked on by Purdue? You realize Duke is stacked but just young right? They’re liking to be a different team come February, and if they played Purdue then it probably would be closer. Purdue might be in the number one spot in a couple weeks…

Iowa may have looked soft at times but Duke is going to do fine in the ACC. I don’t see them losing more than 8 games before conference tournament play.

Not surprised they lost. Was hoping they'd make more a game of it.
Kris and Tony P are going to have to score more, consistently, against other than the dregs for them to be competitive against better teams.
More minutes for Dasonte.
They are a borderline NCAA tourney qualifier with work yet to do.

lets face it Iowa just isn't a good team at all...can't shoot, can't rebound and can't play a lick of defense isn't going to beat any good teams at all. Just prepare for a 0-3 week and mid-bottom of the conference finish from this over rated coach and team!

It's a combination. Duke has multiple tall, athletic players to put on Murray. Not every team has that. Kr. Murray is a fine player. But he is THE focal point of the opposing defense, and against good teams Iowa is struggling to adapt in both getting him good shots and he himself in dealing with it.

Some of the fans here bashing Kr. Murray and throwing out ridiculous things about being soft or whatever, my goodness. Yes, he could play better. But wow. People immediately run to comparisons with his brother, which does happen. But Keegan in college was an explosive finisher near the rim. Kris is not that (at least yet). I'm not making excuses for him, as Iowa needs him to play better to beat good teams. But they are going to have to do it in different ways than just throwing him the ball in isolation and expecting him to get points.

This team has no idea yet what it's identity is. Hopefully they can figure it out. Playing against good teams will do that to you. We can stop with the Perkins comparisons to Andre Woolridge now and stop worrying about Kr. Murray being a top 10 pick. The team just needs to focus on getting better and playing hard/unselfish. They may have found their PG, so that is good.

This team is no different than most of Fran's......middle of the pack in the Big 10, marginal tournament team that...if they make it....will likely not win more than 1 game. I accepted that years ago, and it makes for less frustration.

Kris needs to get started by going to the basket, cutting to the basket and mixing it up in the paint. He’s a tough guard when he’s active like that. Had some open 3s early, but he wasn’t in any rhythm at all. When he’s moving, cutting, getting to the rim and knocking down the occasional 3, that’s when he’s at his best.

Limited scoring options, no front court depth…sound familiar??? We’re a team of P5 reserves. SHOULD have upgraded at least 3 starting positions in the portal. Embarrassing.

No mystery what happened last night. I watched guys miss wide open shots all night long. This is probably the first time in Fran’s tenure that the main guards really aren’t good shooters.

I think Iowa beats ISU to be honest. The key is "simply" hitting a couple trees early. ISU isn't built to win games in the 70s-80s really, nor come back from 8-12 point deficits. If Iowa hits shots early, I think they win 10+.

It’s evident to me that Bowen is clearly our best PG and Dix needs more minutes. His reputation is he’s a really good shooter, so put him in Fran and see what he can do.
Sandfort is in a huge slump.
PMAC played agressive last night, which was good to see. Keep it up.
Cmac played great defense on the 7ft freshmen last night.
Rebraca missed easy bunnies in first half, but we lose by 20 without him. He was the only player that showed any fire last night.
TP is out of sorts, is he still injured? Sick?
He needs to step his game up bring that dog attitude back!
Kris is always going to be compared to his Brother.and he’s not his brother!
If we can’t find another consistent scorer to get the double and triple teams off of him, get used to seeing this against teams that are big and athletic. Struggle is real!

This is not a new phenomenon under Fran. We have been mentally weak and soft for years. We get exposed with physical teams.

Iowa St is better than Duke defensively.
I would hope so, there was nothing special about Dukes defense.

Iowa going to have to play a whole bunch of teams with better defense.

Purdue killed this Duke team.

Thats one if the least impressive Duke teams I can remember.

We looked intimidated. I really believe Rebraca played tough...just outsized.outmatched...but I thought he was one of the few that "brought it". Kris really allowed the Duke man to man swallow him up. He did not show up for a big game. Want to see more of Bowen for sure. Not sure what is going on with Tony but since he had the thigh issue he has not looked the same...mot even close. Not shocked we lost but very disappointed in how we loss.

They're young. They will be a very good team by the end of the year. A lot of scoring options.

I was at the game. That Duke team is pretty good, but I think some of our players were starstruck playing Duke in that venue - you could tell they started the game tight. Kris was open on several offensive possessions by working really hard but we just didn't get him the ball much. We'd go 3 or 4 offensive possessions and he didn't even touch the ball. We can't have that in future games. His body language looked defeated and frustrated during the timeouts as well.

They will learn and move on. This "embarrassed" stuff is ridiculous from some of these idiot posters. "WE" are embarrassed by sitting on the couch watching these guys compete? FFS. I like their chemistry and they will get it figured out. We'll be competitive, win some games we aren't expected to and also lose some that way as well. That's basketball.

I agree that Ulis was not great but disagree that he "really hurt us." He made some nice passes to Rebraca, who missed some bunnies, and Ulis did take a few more shots than I like and missed a few easy ones as well. I guess I see it as he was not getting much help and his role as a creator is somewhat limited, especially against a team like Duke. Kris and Saucy dragged us down as well. He played decent defense, especially relative to the rest of our group.

I am in the camp of ramping up Bowen's minutes, but still see Ulis playing a core rotational role.
