It's proven than Fran's system can't make it far in the NCAA's. Why won't he change?

Not to quibble because I agree with your overall points but Garza had 36 points against Oregon so we did pound it inside. I don't think our tempo when we had the ball was the problem. Rather, Oregon's tempo when they had the ball was the problem. We couldn't slow them down at all when they had the ball.
I think the recipe was out by then... Let Garza cook and defend the outside.

The best teams do normally advance. And if I hear about our "bad matchup " against Oregon again I'm going to scream. We will probably never again be a 2 seed, and we got our asses handed to us and it wasn't even close. Go out and lose a tight one sure, it's disappointing. Go give up over 100 and then say we got screwed by the committee is BS. At some point to make the Final 4 or even the elite 8 you're going to play someone good.
I'd like to hear you scream. Iowa got screwed in that game by Oregon not having a first round game due to a Covid forfeit, so they had a full week to prepare for Iowa and came in fresh, not having played a game since their conference tourney nine days earlier. The Hawks played the late game against Grand Canyon on Saturday, then the early game on Monday against the Ducks, giving them a less than two day break between games.

BTW, Oregon didn't score over 100 points.

Here we go. Yep, Oregon was great. The 7 seed that got their asses handed to them in the next game. Late game against the 15 seed. Must have been exhausting. We had 4 pros on that team. We had experience and talent with Weezy and Garza, Keegan had gotten good experience by then, and we had plenty of depth. It’s an excuse no matter how you look at it. We were the 2 seed, plain and simple. We weren’t some plucky overachieving team from a lesser conference.

It was also a team that had a distinct ceiling due to not having guards that could effectively attack off the dribble offensively and struggled defensively with guards that could.

Perhaps, but by winning % and results the captain still wins. Fran has no Sweet 16s. KF won a BCS Bowl and some other good ones and won 2 regular season Big 10 titles. We don't sniff it in hoops. Since 1979 and counting.
They don't play anywhere near the same type of schedules. The BB team usually has to play the top teams twice, occasionally three times in a season with BTT.

Fran has his faults, but unless you are a blue blood, i think the best you can hope for is a chance. Frans has given the hawks a chance most years. Some things fall on him. Other have been crap lukc or shitty draws... thinking of that Oregon game a few years back.
Uhhhh Chief. Our starting guards got our scored like 61 to 0 in that game by Oregon. That was a talent problem. You start two of the same guards we did that day on the same team, you ain’t going far in the tourney.

Didn't we have a couple of key back court players gimped up for that game with Oregon? I'm not giving McCaffery (or the players!) a pass on our inability to make it to the Sweet Sixteen, but there has been a certain amount of poor timing and bad luck. Every team, even the bluebloods get knocked out unexpectedly some years. We've just had more than our share.

I don’t know about the injuries but Iowa loses by the same script recently. Good all around guards that we can’t defend or counter. Happened against Oregon, Richmond, and to a lesser extent Auburn. Can still see all the backdoor cuts against Richmond that we had no answer for.

We didn’t lose that game because of defense..offensively we couldn’t find the ocean.

On paper I like our perimeter guys, creighton will be a good benchmark to see if we have anything there.

My point I was trying to make was our guard play continually let’s us down in the tourney. I remember PMac having a decent game and it seemed like Keegan was a bit off, think he got hurt maybe, but his stat line was still good. Similar situation to Luka and Joe W against Oregon.

I love the fast pace game. When you never use the shot clock you are going to give up more points. His teams are weakest in the areas of rebounding and defense. Rebounding is as much effort as it is coaching. Defense is also effort but we have lacked a defensive enforcer inside. We often don't match up well with opponents quickness and that is a factor too. I love Kirk Ferentz but I'd rather watch Fran's teams play, scoring a 100, than Kirk's teams getting 3 field goals and a pick six.

You have years of statistical evidence that tell you teams that are bad on defense don't go far. Yet, here we go again.

Is this like KF?
And it seems that Fran's teams usually play tight and do not shoot that well in the postseason. High flying offenses are more apt to have a bad game shooting than and top defense playing poorly
