It's the off-season.

My favorite part about the off season is recruiting.

I think we really need to finish this class off strong to solidify 2020-2022 title contention. (I didn't include 2019 in there, because I think Teasdale would be the only 2018 recruit to go as a true frosh).

I suspect we will continue tapping into Ohio and Pennsylvania pipelines, with a few good Iowa kids. Class of 2018 could be just as stacked as 2017.

I'm excited to see what some of the guys can bring to the freestyle circuit.

Have to think that Gilman slides in as a top 5 57kg guy. It's been a while since he's wrestled any freestyle, but he has had success in the past.

Clark probably won't hit the circuit this year, but what style will be to and what weight. It will be interesting to see.

Does Sammy Brooks make a run?

Is Kemmerer still junior eligible? Probably not, but you never know. If not, I'd like to see him hit the US open. I think too many of our guys have skipped freestyle between once their junior eligibility is up and the time the graduate college.

I'm a little nervous about Teasdale. Seeing your state university win 5 titles has to make some sort of impact I would think. I hope we keep him, but wouldn't be surprised if he did open it back up.

Really? Since Carl has done such a crappy job recruiting at PSU, I am sure he is glad you are lending a hand.

We need to make sure Sasso is what we want in a kid and if so, then get him. Schultz is a kid we need to get. Then we should be good to go to go on a run at PSU.
I like Mason Parris just as much as Cohlton Schultz, if not more long term, as I think he's the better athlete. Maybe not quite as good now, but he's a big time football player and doesn't come close to wrestling year round.

The weekend made recruiting for Iowa tougher that what it already has been. Anyone that disagrees needs to step back and come to reality.

My thoughts exactly. Couldn't have been more of a "perfect storm" for PSU. Everything that could go right that mattered......DID!

Could make filling out the next several recruiting classes a bit more challenging. Just gotta work harder & smarter I guess.

Questions.

Clark, I think it was Tom that referenced Greco for him, I would like to see what he could do there and would get me more into watching and following Greco for sure. Or was it a fun reference due to the Terry Toss?

DD - is he going to give it another go. The way he beat Ramos, was shocking to me.

Matt McDonough - Is he healed up and going to wrestle or is he assisting with HWC. From his twitter he is still very much involved there (His pic of Sammy Brooks with list of accomplishments - He's Meatloaf's dad - lmao)

Metcalf - Still on a much needed break, really want to see him give it at least one more go. Has to be hard putting so much of your life into something and not getting what you expect.

Brooks - Does he stay and HWC, I can only guess when Tom was talking about two or three guys staying on Brooks was the third.

I love Brooks, I really do. But the best thing for him to do is graduate and find a good paying job.

I am thinking this is probably best option for him too, but I really have no insight on the matter other then watching him wrestle his matches. Man I really believed he was going to give Bo a better challenge the second time. I believed if he could stay away from those big moves he could beat him like he beat MM. Bo is slick for sure.

I read an article the other day about the possability of two weight classes being added to freestyle. I am under the assumption that is for international competition but somebody can correct me if I understood it wrong. Inam curious what two weight classes they may decide on and how that affects our guys. Hopefully I wasnt reading another spam article from facebook.

PSU did it itself some good but Iowa did a great job too. Also, Penn State has to compete with Cornell (Koll and Dake), tOSU (two world champs!!), Nebraska (Burroughs), OSU (John Smith). Cael's got serious competition for recruits. Top end recruits have many great options besides PSU.

I'm not worried about the whole Penn State/5 titles thing.... Look at Spencer Lee after all, he's from Pennsylvania also but plans to come to Iowa. What scares me about Teasdale is that he is just a Junior (Senior to be) that means Cael has a year to change his mind..... I hope he doesn't flip...

I don't know why you're worried - we have the best coaches and best results at Teasdale's weight class and we have the best fans and wrestling crowd in D1 history. Quit being so negative.

True. But with Retherford the only junior and the rest being fresh or soph's. How many of the top p4p guys are going to be willing to sit? If they redshirt of course that helps

Lending a hand? That what posting a thought on a message board is?
I think this thought has been posted on HR and BWI a hundred times and each time people have waited to get some kind of response from him to reassure Iowa fans that he is still coming. Each time it's posted here, I cringe.

It's unfounded speculation. There is no need to question a kid who has already committed, and if he or any of his family members read some of the crazy posts that are on some of these message boards enough, they might start to believe some of it.

I believe in self fulfilling prophecy, so I am happy to see the stud recruits we are getting and I do nothing but sing their praises. Can't wait to see them in Black and Gold!

Haha...okay.... Saying that I am worried or concerned about something is not being negative. I do not believe I said anything hateful or damaging to Gavin or Iowa wrestling.... How am I being negative? I believe you are over-thinking what I said...You are correct in regards to everything you said about Iowa wrestling but if you do not take the Penn State program, success and Cael Sanderson serious in regards to a Pennsylvania recruit with over a year to go until signing day then you know something I do not. Out of all the Division 1 programs that could make Gavin change his mind it would probably be Penn State. Plus - we're talking about a 17-year old kid. He is under no contract and searching to find out what is best for his life.... There is always a chance a recruit can flip.... We all want this kid to come to Iowa Bad so there is always worry he may may flip.... I love Iowa wrestling so much, it is the passion and drive to succeed that makes fans emotionally invested in the program. If you worry or if you are concerned it only means you care so much about the sport you love.....Kids like Gavin Teasdale and Spencer Lee make people nervous the most because they are so darn good and if we're going to challenge Penn State we need more kids like them..

Suriano will be at Gavin's weight - feel better now.

Just because you are a nervous nellie does not mean you have to share it with everyone. Have some faith, not like you can control things anyway. PSU does already have Suriano and RBY slated for those two spots anyway, they like to hog talent but having 3 top 5 overall recruits for 2 weights does not seem to benefit them.

I know you are joking, at least I hope so. I wouldn't ever want to deter one of our "own" from sticking around, especially a 2 time AA and a bigger kid on top of that.

With that said, Sammy was, if I recall, a freestyle AND Greco national champ in high school and a world team member or even bronze medalist?? Personally I think Sammys style of wrestling would fit either of these disciplines better than folk style. Hell, that kid from Wisconsin that made our Greco Olympic, Jesse Thielke, was just a guy in college.

Are you positive your not being negative? Just because you don't know your being negative doesn't mean others don't' know your being negative. Thinking someone will flip when they haven't said they would, is negative. Think this... Teasdale is going to be a Hawk. Now that is positive.

He said he was going to come. He will come. He and Lee are best buds and gonna be making each other Great!

If he changes his mind it will be for a good reason that he and his family have decided is in his best interest. That's what we should want for him and them. Make the absolute right decision for Gavin.

Wish them luck and move on.

Huh? What if his dream/goal is to be a Division I wrestling coach? If that's the case getting some senior level experience is pretty good thing for him career development-wise. If he feels the best place for him to do that is in Iowa City all the better.

I just cringe at someone saying "the best thing for Brooks to do" when they probably don't even know what Brooks wants to do with his life.

Brooks is very good in international style. We need all the talent we can get to be around to work out with.

Best to keep your fears to yourself. Unless you can somehow affect the outcome, I doubt anything good can come from a "Pennaphobic" post. There are enough legitimate things to ponder. Leave Murphy's law to Brian up in Michigan.

Do not share comments on a public Message board - Got It

You are not completely reading my comments either. Go read again. I never (not once) said I thought anyone was flipping. I said i was worried he had a year to go and you know Cael will be working him. Nothing negative about that. It's kind of actually a fact. I'm sure Cael will try to get him to flip to Penn State and why shouldn't he? That is recruiting my friend.
