I've been waiting my whole life for a season like this. And now...

i think many fans are still trying to figure out how good this team is. the fact that we are not blowing people out does make one have some doubts. however it is hard to dismiss a 12-0 record and a team that has only been behind for about a dozen minutes all season. that sounds like dominance to me

I can't enjoy this, because I know if they don't win next week, the entire country is going to be giving us the "Overrated" chant. Nothing short of a national title is going to be good enough for the idiots out there to finally admit that Iowa was good this year. I've been away from Iowa for 44 years, and I have fought that same bias here in Indiana, in New Jersey, and in Louisiana every since leaving.

I think if we beat MSU it shuts them up as far as the "Iowa doesn't belong crap."

Don't let the national pundits steal the joy. This is a remarkable team. I think that the talent on this team will ultimately be validated by the number of players that end up sticking in the NFL.

I hear ya...went to my first game in 1957 at 7 years old - don't remember much about it. By 1963 was going regularly at 13 and have vivid memories from Gary Snook thru CJ Beathard.
It's the unfinished business part. I'm in the same boat; I've been following the Hawks for fifty years.

Wow, you guys, I'm very impressed at the length of your commitment! Your passion runs deep.

Last game was the first time this season I really stressed out about the game, before that I had the "I'm just happy to be here" mentality. It has been much more fun just being happy and enjoying the season so II am making sure to get back to that mind set.
My feelings exactly. I didn't want a subpar Nebraska team ruining a 12-0 record on the last week of the regular season.

Our competition is going to be the toughest yet coming up. Shutting up the media by beating MSU would be absolutely glorious. But, a loss is nothing to hang your head about. I am happy with the season no matter what happens. What a great year!

We were just poor dirt farmers and dairymen. At least once a year, after corn picking, Grandpa & Dad would haul us boys down to Iowa City to see the Hawks play. They always wore their Sunday best and sharp hats....and that was the way 90% of the adult men dressed for the games back then. My brother and I had Iowa sweatshirts(non-hooded) that our Grandma had given us for our birthdays and Christmas over the years...they had the real Old Gold color on them. I could go on, but I don't want to be one of those old guys who doesn't know how to stay in the present.

GO HAWKS!

I would like to get excited about 12-0 but I just keep thinking about how disappointing it will be next year when we are 11-1...oh well...

I find this kind of history fascinating, actually, as it gives us a unique glimpse into past times that we'd otherwise never get. It's why I love this message board. Thanks for sharing, and, oh yeah,

Another thing I recall from around 1959/60ish was that about half the men in the crowd(and it was at least a 80% male crowd) entered Iowa Stadium(didn't call it Kinnick back then) with flasks in their pockets. My Dad & Grandpa were not heavy drinkers by any means, but Grandpa always carried a flask of blackberry brandy in with him. One game, when I was maybe 12 he nudged me and offered the flask to me and said "Go ahead, take a good pull. Your Dad won't care". So I did. I hated it, but smiled back at him anyway.

I think about my Dad & Grandpa at lot. But I've been thinking of them more than usual this season. They both told me that they would find a way to get word to me if they found out the HMB was wrong about there being no beer in heaven...I'm sure I heard Dad whisper to me last Saturday in Lincoln that there was plenty of Falstaff for Hawkeyes up there.

GO HAWKS!

So the song should be, "In heaven there is no good beer."

What can I say? Dad was a Falstaff man. All I know is that it tasted pretty good when you pulled a can outta the milk cooler after a hot summer day of baling hay.

...it hardly seems real. I can't explain how I feel but its weird, even other worldly. I'm happy. Very happy, but not euphoric like I would have guessed before it happened. It must be because there is still so much unfinished business.
I feel exactly as you do. However, if this group can knock off Msu and give the worlds biggest finger to ESPN and co. It will be the most fulfilling Hawkeye victory of all time.

It's unfortunate that the anti Iowa agenda makes the end result of this season, short of a title game, one in which all of us will be attacked and feel the need to defend the Hawks.

It's too bad the media hasn't embraced the "under dog" like you see so often.

The problem is, espn and the SEC have pitted everyone against any outsider and all conferences feel the need to be territorial

I actually view it in the opposite way.

Beating the skepticism AND our opponents has made this season even sweeter.

Oh don't get me wrong I agree with you 100% on that. The problem is, short of a national championship game appearance the talking heads and other fans are going to still say, see we told you you guys sucked.

They still won't give iowa respect. Especially if iowa happens to have a ler down and a game gets away from us by a few TDs.

On my part, having been a Hawk fan for a very long time, I think it's because in the past after having a really good year, Iowa's next game was a bowl.
A month or more to savor the season. . Now it's "undefeated, but......"
Too old-fashioned, I liked the way it was before, now we aren't even BiG champs after going undefeated in the regular season

I sat on the living room floor and listened to Notre Dame's fake injury time outs. I nearly cried when I watched Iowa clinch the Rose Bowl in '56. Rode a kids' bus to see Randy Duncan play... hitchhiked from Des Moines to Iowa City when I was a student at Drake and the Hawks were not good... Spent family weekends in Kinnick and Carver for 15 years... made it to the Orange Bowl and let our smiles keep us warm on a cold night in Miami... and spent recent seasons wondering if the good times would return.

This season has been remarkable. I could never fully describe the emotion of being with the people I love when that 57 yard field goal flew between the uprights. The Saturdays of driving 350 miles, yelling like a fool, and feeling elated to add one more victory. And now it's here. We're going to Indy. Iowa will play for the Final Four of football. And, I'm not enjoying it like I should . It seems too much like a pass/fail. It reminds me somewhat of Vietnam... don't get too happy about making it thru eleven and a half months, you still have to get home.

I'm going to work on understanding it's a game. Going to try to enjoy the experience. Time to get to the mountain top and forget about that day on the living room floor.
