Izzo's father passed away today

IZZO has always represented the BIG very well especially for a UPER. A moment of silence before the game would be appropriate.

Seriously. Sorry his loss but Hawks need to win this!! A great chance for our resume this year.

(font selected: sarcasm) Yes, because a game and our "resume" is far more important than someone's father passing.
(font selected: sarcasm) Yeah, because his father's passing only impacts Izzo. Iowa winning this game affects an entire state, nay, region of the country.

Seriously though, that sucks.

Thoughts and prayers to the Izzo family. Tom is a great coach and I know some people do not like his antics, he is a coach who gets it done. Sometimes with fresh raw talent, he can coach them up.

I hope Iowa will honor them with a moment of silence before the game.

It's Izzo's dad. Izzo is coaching in the game. Therefore, the game's the thing. Everybody's dad will die eventually. But not everybody will go to work a few days later...in front of 15,000 fans and a national TV audience. If the game means that much to Izzo--and we know it does--then it follows that Iowa should try to win despite Izzo's personal circumstances. That wouldn't be showing disrespect to anyone. Tom won't be expecting anything, and he won't give anything, but I agree a moment of silence might be appropriate. After that, play ball.

I'm not saying we lay down and roll over due to the situation, but--and perhaps I inferred incorrectly--the "the game is more important than death" theme hit me a little odd.
Didn't mean to rile the rank and file. Go Hawks!

In other words, yes, the game is more important to us than his personal grief.

Considering Izzo's age, his dad must have had a good run. That's all you can ask for.

They'll be trying to win, therefore, we should be trying to win. Once the ball is in the air, everyone will remember why they're there.

I'm guessing many of us have worked shortly after losing a loved one and before arrangements are made. For many people this is how they cope with the grief in the immediate aftermath. It's not "more important", but whether Izzo coaches or not, whether MSU or Iowa wins, the man still lost his dad. The result of a game doesn't change that.

If there is a moment of silence, I hope no jackass in Carver ruins it and makes us look bad.

The only way Izzo wants it is for Iowa to give his team their best shot tonight.

I hope the referees already sent him flowers instead of handing him a bouquet of calls tonight.

(this ends what probably looks like a LuteHawk post)
