Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz. Who ya got?

The Paul brothers have a decent wrestling background, plus they are young and athletic. With a training camp focusing on MMA, this won't be the cake walk for Diaz that some think.
I don't know...Nate is a really bad man and I think once this goes to the ground Paul is toast. I hope for the PPV crowd it doesn't go down that way, but that's how I see it.

There are millions of reason why Paul suggested a fight in the cage. Being put in a submission hold and quickly having to tap is far better than 10 rounds of boxing.
You missed the part where Paul explained he would have dropped to a double leg to foil the choke. (Never mentioning the possibility of ND pulling guard at that point. Lol)

Even the best strikers in MMA are not even close to being in the same league as a skilled boxer. With just hands and tiny little gloves, imagine what Tyson would do to Jon Jones? Paul is a better boxer tha Diaz. I would doubt Paul gets out of Round 1 with him in a MMA contest.
That was my mistake. I naively thought Paul was a very average boxer after his last fight, but you're right, he's above average and that puts him in a class above Diaz in boxing. If you would have asked, Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou, which seems to be happening, with no hesitation I'd say Fury will destroy him. I simply didn't give Paul enough credit.

Or collecting a well placed knee - see Ben Askren for that one;)

I’m honestly surprised at how bad these MMA guys are at boxing. There is a ton of striking in MMA but these cannot box at all. It’s honestly kind of embarrassing. Now obviously Diaz would choke Paul out in my opinion in the 1st round of a MMA fight but I just thought MMA would translate a little better to boxing.

Why? MMA isn’t a boxing match. Boxers tend to not do well in the octagon. What’s so difficult to understand?

You obviously didn’t read my post. MMA guys spend a ton of time boxing/ slash throwing hands. So yes, I think they would be better at it. For Gods sake Jake Paul is an internet guy, he just took up boxing 3 years ago. These MMA guys have been fighting their whole lives. Old or not Diaz had just walked away from UFC as a champion.

For another example - see how James Toney did against Randy Couture. I'll save you the time, it did not end well for James.
So what percentage of MMA fights do guys spend boxing? It’s a pretty high percentage. At least 40-50% in some fights. I would expect boxers to not do well in an MMA fight because they aren’t wrestlers or kickboxing/martial arts guys.

Really depends on the fighter. My only real point was that even the best strikers in MMA would not compare well with high level boxers. Would be just the opposite result in a street fight.

So maybe he could beat internet guy Jake Paul?
James would have kicked Paul’s ass in boxing, just didn’t know what to do once Randy took him to the ground. I give him credit for having his only mma fight against a legend. Kind of like what Mcgregor did with his only boxing match.

Nate Diaz was never a champion. He did have a record for most fights finished by submission. He has horrible boxing defense. He lost nearly as many UFC fights as he won. Jake Paul has fought a carefully selected group of poor boxers who are way past their prime and much smaller. They use his promotional company, which means they fight in places like Florida, Texas and Dubai, where he is not drug-tested. Any mma fight will also be under his promotion.

Very true... except we're not talking high level boxing with Jake Paul and he's making mma dudes look bad in boxing. That's why I think this Ngannou Fury match is going to be very dangerous for Ngannou.

Apples and oranges. You must not have read my post. Boxing isn’t MMA. Kick boxing isn’t boxing.

well, sure. I agree. Any pro boxer should outbox an mma practitioner.

The only way it doesn't end well for Ngannou is if he catches Fury with a lucky big shot. The problem with that concept is Fury is a great defensive fighter and has been dodging big shots from big heavyweights his entire career. He will make Ngannou look silly and carry him for enough rounds to let people get their money's worth.
