The Vikings keep signing DTs this off-season. Sheldon Tichardson, David Perry (Linn-Mar), and drafting Jalyn Holmes. I know they lost starter Tom Johnson but it doesn’t seem like they have a lot of faith in JJ to emerge. Hope I’m wrong. Perry looks more suited to back up Linvall Joseph but who knows.

Holmes is DE with flexibility to move inside...they have said before how much they like jaleel and besides chances Sheldon may be just a one year guy in Minny if he plays as well as he should Minny won't be able to afford to keep him unless they want to lose diggs and other pieces

JJ is probably a year out, Sheldon won't be here next year, it will then be JJ's job to lose.

Not that I care about the purple pansies but since when is D Line depth a bad thing? Most teams that do well have great depth at d line.. I think JJ is liked up there but if not, god knows, my Lions could use him and it would be easier for me to cheer for him too.

I'm a lifetime Hawkeye and Viking fan who lives in a Twin Cities suburb, and from what I've seen and heard they like Jaleel just fine, as do I. The only thing I'm pissed about is that they didn't draft Akrum Wadley or bring him in as a UDFA, after losing McKinnon.

It's not like they can just force a guy to come in as a udfa

As others have said, just because a team signs players at a position it doesn't mean they don't like certain guys on the roster. It's the NFL, they look to improve everywhere every year. It's why the average career of a NFL player is so short. For a player to go beyond his first contract, he has to be good enough to be better than a cheaper alternative the team can get via the draft. Johnson is in a good place with a talented defense. If he plays well in whatever role he gets with the Vikings, he'll be rewarded either by the Vikings or by getting paid more by another team.

Agreed. The active roster of 53 during the season balloons to 90 in the offseason.

I like Wadley and think he could become a useful 3rd down back/returner but he wouldn't get much action in Minnesota. They have Cook and Murray consuming most carries. Murray is good catching out of the backfield and a good blocker. He'll take a lot of 3rd down work.

They have a good punt returner in Sherels and just drafted a good kick returner in Hughes.

Wadley wouldn't be a factor for awhile here. Probably practice squad.

All true. That said, Sherels is getting long in the tooth, but I think he's been a great punt returner. If Hughes ends up getting significant playing time in the secondary, and plays well, I'd prefer someone else return kicks.

And Cook got off to a great start before he got hurt. I'll assume he isn't injury prone until proven otherwise, but if it were to happen and Murray got the bulk of the work again, I would love to have Akrum as the scatback.

There are plenty of former Hawks I don't necessarily want on the Vikes, but I'd love to have Wadley. He has IT, IMO.

They can't force a guy, but it is pretty easy to guarantee the most money. A lot of guys can be had for just an extra $10k sweetener, which is nothing for an NFL franchise.

I think the Vikes did that last year for a QB that was at one time on Denver's pratice squad, Kyle Sloter. Think he had a lot of suitors, but the Vikes offered 20k more than anybody else. Probably a good idea with Teddy's fragile leg and balsa wood Bradford.

Balsa wood Bradford legit may be the best name I've heard for that dude
