Saw this guy on an interview today and realized there is no way in hell I could be around him for an extended period of time. He's just way too over the top for me.

That made me wonder if the Penn State faithful are getting tired of his act.

Also wondered how their fans assessed his whining about negative recruiting by Michigan State and Ohio State.

Does anyone know?

All I know is you're dead on about him and he's more like a used double used car salesman... Better yet a used mobile home dealer .. He's absolutely full of himself and isn't all that of a coach

Franklin knows he's up against it with UM now resurgent under JH and +O$U and Sparty continuing their level of play. I doubt he's the PSU coach 3 years from now.

Add in the continued hangover and stigma from the pedo debacle and he's going to have a tough time recruiting at a top level.

He ran his mouth a whole bunch when he got hired, which made the media think he could win football games. That doesn't appear to be the case. 6-10 in the B1G.

I'm not a big fan of the man. My son has attended a few football camps the last 2 summers and the only coach he has not liked is Franklin - said he was just a jerk.

He does seem like a good fit for the cult that is Penn State.

He's a clown act at best (along with his AD) The negative recruiting insinuation was a complete joke - especially against OSU. If you look at both schools 2017 commitments, the ONLY possible HS player both schools are chasing/offered is Lamont Wade and he's probably now a backup plan for the Buckeyes with the recent commitment of A. Riep - their 5th DB commitment of 2017 and rated higher than Wade on OSU's 2017 recruiting board. They only have possibly 3 to 5 open spots and are considered the favorites with several 5 stars that are left. They will completely shatter the highest rated composite 247 record class (by Alabama) by a huge margin when the 2017 class is done. I challenge any Ped State fan to name ONE current OSU committed recruit that had a serious/legit interest in the pedophiles. Just ONE.

If you followed the BIG meetings, Franklin later stated in a direct conversation with Urban that OSU was not negatively recruiting. In fact, no BIG teams were involved in his and the AD's claim. He said it was just one team and it was outside the BIG. Why even bring it up in the first place ? Could it be he's inventing excuses now to cushion the blow for some crappy upcoming seasons ? What an a$$ !

I don't see them doing much this year either. They have a really good RB but they are moving to an uptempo spread offense this year so who knows how that will go.And they lost a lot from their really good defense last year. Seems like Franklin generally beats the bad to average teams and then loses to all the good ones.

When you're offense isn't very good, up-tempo means 3-and-out in less than 1 minute. I hope their defensive coaches are on-board with this approach.

Is it still the kid that chose PSU over Iowa? Lynch?

In 3 seasons at Vandy and 2 at PSU, his best conference finish was 4th in his division. His record against ranked opponents is exquisitely bad. I realize all caveats for Vandy apply, but still nothing special thus far.

Didn't realize his best at Vandy was only 4th in the weaker East division. Him at Vandy is kind of similar to ISU win 6-7 games there like winning 9-10 at most any other school.

I remember few months ago in draft process Hackenberg got ripped for being honest in his team interviews when when talking about how Franklin and his offense was why his numbers were down last 2 years compared to Bill O'Brien his first year. Sounded like he wasn't a big fan of Franklin.

He turned a lousy Vanderbilt program with low standards into a respectable program. I view Vanderbilt as a MAC school with better academics.

He came into PENN State after O'Brien left with a reputation as a smooth talker who could recruit. Unfortunately for him he came in after Urban Meyer who coached a real SEC program, he changed the BIG landscape. Bielema whined and complained about the SEC recruiting ways before taking his talents to the SEC.

He's had some good classes but came in at a bad time. He's all flash so far with his greatest accomplishment being almost beating Ohio State two years ago. Who knows maybe he'll breakthrough, until then he's been a bust.

Didn't have a chance to read all but pretty hard hitting ( from hero's above a keyboard in a dark room). I doubt though James Franklin give a rat's butt about what folks west of the Mississippi say.about him and...it'll all come to a conclusion say on Nov. 5

I agree with you about Vandy, but when you really break down his performances there it isn't exactly impressive. 2012 team went 9-4, but they played 3 ranked opponents and lost by a combined 96-33 score. They also lost to Northwestern. They only beat 2 teams with a winning record all season (7-6 Ole Miss and 7-6 NC State). In 2013 they also went 9-4 with another 2 wins against teams with a winning record (8-5 Georgia and 8-5 Houston).

Vandy and all, but they kinda got lucky in those particular seasons to have about as weak a schedule as they could ever have. Tennessee won a combined 3 conference games in Franklin's 2 winning seasons. Florida only won 4 games total one of those years.

He is a fast and smooth talker but has not shown to be much of a coach on the field. He most likely will not be there much longer.
