Hard not to take this cat for granted because he makes the superhuman look routine. Very proud to call this guy an American and having him repping our sport so well. Tough, technical, athletic, and full of desire. Please keep pushing DT and Dake to keep the chip on this guy's shoulder...keeps him sharp.

Amazing accomplishment. He had the tough side of the bracket for sure and beat a tough Russian in the semis, which was the "real" final. That Mongolian was completely overmatched in the final. The announcers hit the nail on the head when they said JB doesn't really have any weaknesses. You could absolutely see the imprint that he's made on James Green who wrestled a very similar style. Some good stuff from Team USA, and obviously some big time disappointments as well.

Just wish he wouldn't have spoken about belonging on the Mt. Rushmore of American Wrestling- just a tad more egotistical than was merited.

JB is the real deal though.

It doesn't get discussed often, but Burroughs is accomplishing all of this with less weight classes than there were in the 80's and 90's. That's a pretty big deal. I don't think there's any question that fewer weight classes is pushing more talent into the same weights. I think Burroughs is on Mt. Rushmore...and I think an argument could be made that winning 4 world titles with 6-8 weight classes is as impressive as 6 world titles with 10 weight classes. If Smith and Fadzayev meet at 65KG, does Smith win 6 years in a row?

That's a point that certainly has some merit to it. Dude is getting it done. Period.

He's also getting it done post-Soviet breakup which makes the weight classes much deeper as well. When it's all said and done I have a feeling he will be the best competitor on wrestling's Mt Rushmore.

Fewer weight classes, post-Soviet era, and internet era all make things much tougher than Smith (and to a lesser extent Baumgartner) had it. As someone pointed out on TV he is probably the most scouted wrestler in the world and all of his matches are easily available. Mt Rushmore: Burroughs/Cael/Smith/Gable for me. I'd have a hard time including a heavyweight not named Karelin or Medved. Dan Hodge would be considered too. He'd be a lock if he hadn't been touch-falled while up 8-2 in the last seconds of his 1960 Olympic finals match.

Thanks to the OP for posting the video- great stuff from JB. You usually don't get the word "Boobs" in wrestling press conference, especially since the heavyweight limit.
