I think it's a logically consistent position for them. If their basis for pro life is that they believe abortion is actual murder. Why would the circumstance of rape or incest change that?
It’s astounding he’s coming right out and saying it like this. Pro-abortion measures are on the ballot in several republican states, most notably Florida. They keep this up, it quite possibly could put that state in play, or at at least make them spend resources there to defend Scott’s seat they’d rather use elsewhere.
Being Trump's VP pick, I'd expect nothing different from him on those topics.

I saw the line of thinking that Trump picked Vance to run up his margins with conservatives thinking he already had Biden beat. There had been a good deal of concern from pro-lifers that Trump was abandoning them. So Vance may have been a pick to try to keep those voters onside.
Part of me wonders if Biden's timing of dropping out wasn't in part a strategy to get Trump to make a bad pick.

Exactly. He's a mess politically. Clearly doesn't favor some of these ultra socially conservative positions but is dumb enough to surround himself with people that hold them. (Granted, the pool of people that might want to be associated with his campaign might be rather small)

It’s confounding - Trump had NEVER had firm politician positions, aside from what will benefit him or get him the loudest applause line from his followers.

Fair enough. Now you need to find the money to provide full prenatal care and fund day cares so moms can work. You should also fund comprehensive, age-appropriate sex ed starting in fourth grade and make contraceptives easily and anonymously available to sexually active teens.
If you care for the kids, of course.
BTW, did you know the abortion rate in 2019 was lower than it was prior to Roe v Wade becoming law? Interesting.
