Jeremiah Tilmon recruiting update

He's already very good. Did you see that spin move where he took the ball all the way down the court? As usual, I won't hold my breath but yes, kid is a stud and game changer. It'd be nice if he and Cook had a good relationship, it sounds like he barely knows him. Couldn't hurt tho. I'm surprised that Alford still hasn't been fired yet. He's at UCLA where they fired a guy who went to three straight Final Fours and Stevie's only been to one Sweet 16 in 2 years. Not good enough at UCLA.

Tilmon has some serious agility with and without the ball. With he and Cook on the inside we'd be the bullies of the B1G. It's interesting to see, by his recruiting, where Fran sees his team going in the future.

The List: UNC, UCLA, Iowa, Kansas, and Illinois

As a 16 year-old, still plenty of time for Duke, KY, and others to come calling. That said...

Fran's shown that he'll stick a big man in young and play him all 4 years, and we'll have an opening after this year, and there will be big man minutes up for grabs when he arrives, so ya never know. On the downside, he seems like a potential 1 and done.

Anyone see where Mr. Cook moved up in ESPN top 100 rankings? He is now at #47 (up 6 spots). So that is good, we got a top 50 recruit, who was our last one (woody)?

I think you get the Cook kid in a "team offense" and he will shine.

So we are in the running for a five star recruit that has little/no connection to Iowa or the university?

It's incredible how far we've come. If we can keep on improving, you have to think that a lot more guys like Tilmon will at least give Iowa a second look

With only 2 scholarships to offer in 2017 Fran can be pretty selective. I would think with the surrounding talent and recent success finding a top big man and elite PG should be very doable for Fran.

I think the future is looking pretty bright for Fran and the Hawkeye BB program.

Fran also has the ability to hang in there to the very end, if Tilmon has the Hawks as a finalist, as he can always have Connor walk on for a season or 2. This enables Fran to keep recruiting hard for other players to fill the 1 open scholly remaining.

No matter what, we have to keep recruiting the 2017 class. But we are not exactly wide open regarding scholarships. On paper, with Conner McCaffery committed we only have one scholarship left. Then there are the weird things:

1) Dale Jones might get a sixth season. No more scholarship available.
2) Nick Baer deserves a scholarship as everyone including Fran has said.
3) Yes, we could have Conner walk-on, imo that is purely up to the McCaffery family. Up...to...them.
4) There could be transfers!
5) Work that all out and we're still full, technically, in 2018.

So yeah, have to keep recruiting but it is a convoluted mess right now. One hopes it works out to where we get everything we want including that one big (whoever it is) that we want to sign in 2017.

Last thing. Concerns over point guard for the future. Once again we appear to have a year where we aren't after a point guard (2017). Apparently the staff feels pretty comfortable with the likes of Williams, Bohannon, back up or help from other positions taking the load off, and Conner. If that's the case as it appears, Fran and company know a lot more about the situation than I...I'm not going to worry about the point guard either. We simply must have it covered. ;)

The nice thing about now vs Fran's 1st true recruiting class? The fallbacks now are as good as the guys he was targeting back then.

Tilmon would be a game changer paired with Wagner and cook. That's one athletic front line.
