Would have loved to see CJ and him to connect on a pass today but I have a fealing he is going to have a fine career at Iowa knock on wood. On a day where the Wisconsin DB's were all over the Iowa WR's Smith seemed to be the only guy able to get separation from his man. If not for the wind he could have had two huge receptions that could have gone for TD's.

CJ showed he had the arm strength to cut through the wind he was just having trouble gaging it. I hope Jerminic still gets plenty of action this season.

I agree. I wanted to see J. Smith line up with Vberg and T. Smith a little more. That's not a shot at JH but J. Smith does seem to have that speed. Could be a dangerous player going forward.

Good point on gauging the wind. Very hard to do on the long ball. Very impressive, though, that CJ was able to throw it about 55 yards into that wind. Problem was that he had to overcompensate to get it down there and ended up overthrowing both just by a little bit. . . and Smith had a couple of steps both times. Kid's got some serious wheels. Hopefully we see CJ connect with him on some long ones this year and next. With his speed and CJ's ability to throw it long (fantastic touch on the long ball as a rule), I'd be surprised if we don't see them connecting for some TD's pretty soon.

Consider me not real impressed with his performance today. The guy was thrown to more than any true frosh wr that I can remember, and he just didn't come down with any big catches. Even Plewa came up with a catch. I know it's nice that we are playing a true freshmen WR, but I think that's more out of desperation than his abilities. If Tevan was in there, he would have caught at least 3 of the missed passes today.

Maybe because he was over thrown and didn't have any chances to actually make a play. This kid had a step on his defender more than a couple times today.

Seriously, which ball was even close to him?

Not particularly impressed with a guy that had zero catches on multiple targets. Our receiving corps is a mess, and clearly the biggest weakness in this program right now.

I was actually impressed with him on both deep throws. He had a few steps on 2 defenders both times which means he has good speed and knows how to separate himself. Other times CJ over threw him so its not his fault he didn't catch the ball. I would like to see him opposite of Tevaun with Vandeberg in the slot. A couple guys that can stretch the field and the Vandeberg is your short possession guy.

The throws weren't catchable. Maybe Smith the Younger didn't run through his routes, got jammed or maybe just QB misses in the wind. He was the only guy to get behind his defender. WR without Smith the Elder is a huge liability. Very interested in what people in the stadium saw when the camera wasn't on Jerminic.

I just threw a football at my garage. You didn't catch it. I'm not impressed.

bingo. I wouldn't write him off because Beathard overthrew him. Guy has speed, hopefully he has hands.

Rest assured that the Iowa O has now a whole week of prepping knowing that Tevaun will be out. That will help give CJ and Jerminic an opportunity to work more on their timing.

Between the wind, the fact that it's a foreign stadium, and timing issues (between CJ and Jerminic) ... those factors all contributed to them failing to connect.

However, I'll give Jerminic some credit .. he managed to gain some separation on his routes. With a bit more time and practice ... he and CJ will be connecting on some plays.

CJ didn't have much time back there. WR's need time to get separation and for most of the day they didn't get it. Slants and screens would have been a nice compliment for the pass rush.

It amazes me how SOME Iowa fans in this thread and on post-game radio, etc., are finding reasons to complain about this game!!

Are you freaking kidding!? We are 5-0 and just won AT Wisconsin ... Ranked #19 and rarely loses at home.

Was the game real pretty? Heck no. But we WON... And our defense played lights out and we fought and we stayed composed and we played as a team... Holy cow fans complaining after today's game seriously must be some unhappy chaps in general in life.

Enjoy this win. Enjoy this team... Go Hawks!

Complaining or discussing? You can have a discussion and bring up issues of concern without it being negative complaining. For me it was Greg Davis. I thought he was horrible this game. Made no adjustments. The only RB screen Iowa tried was a miss throw to Canzeri where he had a ton of room to run.

Whoa there whipper snapper. Just discussing and stuff. It's all good.

Maybe getting a few more reps with CJ will benefit. It's hard to "know"each other in your first game played together. Before we take either to task let's give 'em some time to learn each other.

I like the idea of a freshman who can get separation.

I thought the wind was blowing right to left on TV. And 2 of the throws were with the wind. Not sure of the 3rd throw. Am I wrong?

The overthrown balls involved a true freshmen wr who gave up on the plays and was just jogging by the time the ball was over his head. Had he continued to run, he would have been right under them.

I'd rather see him get more time then Hillyer. No offense to Hillyer but he's had his chances and he is what is he at this point. Not a playmaker. Hope to see more of Smith and the other young guys this season

If that was jogging I can't wait to see how fast he is when he is running at 100% effort!

Not CJ's best day for sure. But I don't care. So much more fun watching him than Ms. Rudock.

Or we could have remembered outside of 1 throw for 1 Touchdown (and one bad throw in the end zone on 4th down), THAT WE HAVE TIGHT ENDS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA! Burns my ass we don't employ our Tight Ends more, prior to and after today. Plus we were running the ball down their throats, nobody could block Schobert, so every time we went back to pass it was a waste of time.

As for Jerminic, if he were 9 ft 6 in tall he may have had one catch, today, possible two. All the throws in his direction were uncatchable, maybe 1 he could have touched or did, but he didn't do anything poorly as far as catching the ball. We still don't know if he can, we shall see I guess.

We really should have won this game far more easily than we did, even with a bad day from Beathard. I'll definitely take it however. Remember the Alamo! And the Tight Ends!;)

Iowalaw FAIL
Smith was overthrown. Did not let up. Too critical on I law.
Wind was huge issue. Going to fault place kickers today.?
Next.
Great game

Great game coaches!!
To win at Madison - HUGE

WTF are you talking about? Not coming down with a catch means you have to touch it. They weren't even close to him.

This iowalaw guy is posting some of the dumbest comments I've seen this season ITT, wow.

Jerminic didn't have a chance on those throws, and "jogging"?! Wtf..
