Jewell's helmet to helmet was

I guess if you're a complete puss it was a "horror to observe". The guy was back on his feet before Jewell got off the field. Sounds to me like you should start watching checkers or badminton or something. You're way to delicate to watch football.
LOL come on now....

Definitely a nasty hit. I'm surprised he got up as quickly as he did. That play is a great example of why the rule is in place. Too bad for Jewell but the penalty was obviously the correct call.

LOL all you want. I understand the sentiment involved but since the targeting call has come into the rules, "collecting the targeting call" has become an essential part of football strategy. Drop your head at the last second and go all rag-doll at the hit and you get 15 yards and ejection of a top opposing player. Great strategy, crappy football. Without the head drop, the Miami player would have gotten a shoulder in the chest and been taken out of the play. Kid has pro potential.

Yeah, it WAS surprising he got up so quick. Looks like bad coaching. If you're going to do a flop you should learn to stay on the ground a little longer.

Okay, but I was lol'ing at how seriously you took my post that was directed at someone else.

It was exaggerated for a reason. Come on man.

Appeared to lead with crown of helmet. Josey is better than that. The kid was tripping for several steps before the block.. No one is gonna hear a yell in Kinnick

If player A is running at 15 miles an hour and player B at 12; what is the intersection point of both players with Player A hitting with his shoulder? Do the angle of impact change if player B drops to 5 miles and hour and what is reaction time given to player A to adjust and hit at the same angle?

I'll let you ponder that for awhile, and then bitch and the next 6th grader game about someone spearing. I'm assuming you flunked physics and think every baseball player should just react to a curveball and hit a home run everytime as well.

Based on the current rules, this was the correct call.

However, there needs to be a modification of the rules to put some of the responsibility on ALL players. For example, if the player's helmet is below level with their shoulder pads it is no ejection or offsetting 15 yard penalties while still having the ejection, or some other variation. Make the "offensive" player keep their head up.

Players are taught to tackle through the body. When the "offensive" player lowers his helmet, that causes the tackle zone to become the helmet in the matter a split second.

If Miami player doesn't trip, Jewell's helmet goes in front of him and he hits him with shoulder pad in chest legal. Couple years ago, an ISU player dives and our safety gets ejected going over him making contact with his arms.

Keep your head up on BOTH sides of the ball. If a running back lowers his helmet, he's causing the risk just as much as the defensive player.

I'm not reading all 3 pages but the factor that bothered me the most was they guy was out of the play. Josey didn't need to even make contact and we have a huge return.

sad part is that the Miami player had no play on King. Unnecessary block. I hate for JJ to miss the game, but it was the correct call from here on out in football... There have been too many guys suffer from head injuries, ala Tyler Sash to name one.

The rule is too draconian. The toughest penalty in football is 15 yards, but now we have one new rule that has a penalty of 15 yards and a full game ejection.

Without the ability to determine intent, a game ejection is just too extreme. I don't have an alternative, but the ejection is just too much. Josey Jewell just lost 1/15th of his senior year due to what basically amounts to a mistake collision on a special teams play.
Sorry, Josey is a junior. But thanks for playing.
