I think that many times, sophomores had a decent/good freshman year, and place a ton of pressure on themselves to perform sophomore, and that’s (at least partially) responsible for the sophomore slump. That’s what appeared to happen to Wieskamp this year down the stretchOutstanding freshman campaign Joe T! I think his strength is what will help him avoid the dreaded “sophomore slump” he really didn’t show to much signs of wearing down.. I realize he didn’t play as much as some but he’s a very strong young man... Congrats on a good year one..
Why would he take on a reduced roll? Makes absolutely zero sense. If Bohannon is back healthy Joe T. should have a greater role not lesser. Lane penetrator and can defend up top. If he continues to improve his 3, he will be tough to deal with.I think that many times, sophomores had a decent/good freshman year, and place a ton of pressure on themselves to perform sophomore, and that’s (at least partially) responsible for the sophomore slump. It should help Toussaint immensely that he’s actually taking on a reduced roll next year if Bohannon comes back. Iowa will really only be relying on him for quality depth and good defense - unless Fran chooses to have Bohannon come off the bench (which I like the idea of)
It’s very possible that he goes from starter to backup. It’s also possible that Connor plays more at the point, if Nunge comes back and is logging minutes at the 4, while still maintaining late game ball handling responsibilities. In this scenario, Toussaint has to neither start nor close out games, and will be relied on less for scoring. Seems like a role reduction to me, though his role of perimeter defender, facilitator, and penetrator off the bench is still incredibly valuable. Why would he take on a reduced roll? Bohannon takes Evelyn's minutes and Nunge takes Kreiner's minutes,.. no other big changes required.

What is your rationale for saying he likely has a bigger role? Who is he taking minutes from? Bohannon likely gets Evelyn’s minutes (maybe even and then some). Fredrick isn’t losing minutes. Connor isn’t losing minutes. How does this make zero sense?
We were forced to play two centers way more than I would have liked this season. I would like to see Joe T take some of Kreiner's and Pemsl's minutes and not just give them all to Nunge. Joe T needs to be playing over 20 minutes a game next year, he's too much of a difference maker on both ends of the ball.
Joe T started to come on as the year went along....he was obviously learning and improving during the season under Fran's coaching and Connor's mentoring. That said, he has to progress even further in the off season. My "guess" is that as good as he played part of his success was other teams not game planning for him..because he wasn't playing a lot or playing consistently. So, how much improvement he makes in the off season will dictate his role and his playing time.
Really high on this kid, we can all see his potential. He's quick, he's strong, I think he's also a smart kid and pretty mature for his age. His free throw shooting was tremendous which was based on mechanics and consistency in practice. That bodes well for his outside shot which we saw was improving down the stretch. I think he will be a really good for this team......he has to continue to learn from Connor on how to facilitate the offense and get those assists while keeping turnovers low. Once he does that, THEN his defense and other tools will be real positives for this team.
The first step is getting that consistent outside shot working. Then when teams have to play him on the outside it opens things up for others on the inside and his ability to drive. Based on his shooting down the stretch it looks like he is close to mastering that first step.
I think Joe T would benefit from learning how to stop and pop. I see nothing wrong with 12-15 ft jumpers. A lot of his turnovers were from going into the 'trees' and getting his shot blocked or the ball stolen. If he stopped sooner and took a short jumper quickly it would work.
I don't see anyone on our team that does this now (early in the year JoeW did sometimes). Someone linked to a 1980 game, I think it was, and one of our guys (BJ or maybe another guy) was doing this.
Just the fact that he did that against Wisky made my day.
yeah, 2 Badgers ended up on their asses.Just the fact that he did that against Wisky made my day.
