Plays D. Gets to the rim opening up shots for others. If he played more today it would have been down to the wire. I hope they look long and hard at this.

This should Frans biggest takeaway from this game. Along with find an assistant and let them have control of defense.
Fran is stubborn and loyal I doubt this happens I hope at minimum Joe gets more minutes. Our perimeter D is an embarrassment with Bohannon and when Jbo is throwing the ball away all day and clanging shots massive liability.
Joe T is going to commit 2 to 3 bad turnovers a game at the point. I'm ok with that. He makes up for it with defense and keeping the opposing team on their heels.

He is going to be one helleva player for us. We have a higher ceiling with him this year.
Yep and with what he brings to the table on all phases of the game it is worth it.

I would say he definitely helped himself gain some more PT.
He was only player with a pulse driving into the lane. He plays like that more often and we become even more dangerous. Gonzaga has alot of speed and athletes. So unless the 3 ball is falling it becomes tougher for the Hawks to win a game like this.
Bohannon is having a rough year. Easy to pick up assists when you have Garza and guys knocking down 3's at high rates but all other areas of his game have been weak. Toussaint needs to be starting. Bohannon needs to fix his shot or he is nothing but a liability for Iowa against good teams.
Most of Joe Ts turnovers are aggressive drives to the basket JBOs are mostly off of bad passes
JoeT really benefits from being surrounded by shooters. He’s the quickest player on the floor at all times and when he penetrates the d can’t sag off to help. Saw that on his drives today, the d wasn’t willing to leave their man in fear of a wide open 3 and he kept making layups. He needs more PT and that’s indisputable. Obviously is an upgrade on d as well.
I also wonder if Jbo would have more success playing 15-20 min strictly at the 2 running off screens. At least the defense would have to pay attention to him then

Less JBO and CMAC and more JT and Nunge. We need defense, rebounding and the ability to get the ball down the floor quicker and someone who can beat their man off the dribble.
Nothing against 3 and 30 but bring them off the bench with Patrick and Murray for experience with the 2nd unit.

Joe is every bit as quick and maybe more so than every player Gonzaga has. He needs to get more minutes!
I am hopeful vs Purdue on Christmas day we see it/more minutes at minimum.
Agree, less Nunge shooting deep jump shots though but around the rim he has done VERY well, took way too many 3's and long 2's today.
I think if Joe T played more minutes we would have still been right in it, we have such a higher ceiling with him WHEN he isn't out of control and throwing the ball away like he did in years past. Game seems to be slowing down for him now and he has so much upside as is our ceiling higher.

If Jbo isn’t hitting his shot he is a liability for us unfortunately. We’ve seen vs UNC, isu when they had their small G Harris on him and today against high caliber guards struggle when they put so much pressure on him to a point Connor handles the point. His D has always been subpar seems almost worse this year along. Not just man but zone and help D. If he continues to not take care of the ball how can you not go with JoeT if his one knock is turnovers which he has improved some from last year. With big 10 play ahead I just think having a guy like him play over jbo benefits iowa with our lineups.

Is there any chance the coaches feel that by having Joe T in, it hurts Garza's game? Joe T, as we know, isn't much of a deep threat. So the question is will his man on D sag off into the paint and double Luka?
I would say JT and Connor should never be in at the same time.
Joe T needs more minutes, period. I would agree with this generally but the main thing is he gets more minutes.

I don’t mind him shooting but when it’s early in the shot clock it drives me insane.
I agree if he's hitting but after missing numerous in a row reel it in. Overall he has vastly improved and glad he's on our team.
The more he plays the more those will decrease I think.
He has his faults but the team needs a real pg that can pressure the defense.
JBO has to be about the easiest player in the country to defend.

Jbo was not able to do anything with that but JoeT got into the lane consistently.
If teams are going to defend our high screen like that, thats a huge advantage that we need to attack early and often with Joe and Luka.
Make them choose to stop the penetration or give a guy shoot %60 from 3 an open look.
This may need to be our primary offensive look even more than a Garza post up. But it requires JoeT to make the correct reads.

When I consider JBo, it is hard to ignore all the big shots he has made during his career. I really don't see how Fran is going to sit a five year starter who just passed BJ Armstrong on the career assist list. Having said that, it was painful to watch him struggle against Gonzaga. The missed shots were one thing, but the terrible passing was atypical for him.
