Joe Wieskamp Rock Spring Classic Video

We all know about Wieskamp's shooting prowess. But his athletic ability puts him on the level of Jok 2.0. I'll bet that's how he was recruited as fitting into the Iowa team.
I'd actually say, given he's a junior in high school, that he handles the ball better then Jok in his first couple of years at Iowa. Granted he'll face tougher defenders in the BIG, but it sounds like he has the work ethic to continue to rise to the challenge. VERY excited about the future of Iowa basketball. Great nucleus put in place this year with JBO, Cook, Pemsl, Moss, and Kreiner. Add in Garza, Nunge, CMac, Joe W., and PMac! If Fran can keep the trajectory of recruiting going, we'll get to see that elite 8 type run in the next several years.

the kid just gets it done...one of the highest BB IQ out there with the talent to go along with it ... the difference maker? Desire ......at a unbelievable level.

he wants to be great ... on both ends of the floor...in all aspects.
There is a reason why he was Mr Iowa as a 'junior'.

sometimes I worry that the expectations are so high...but if anyone can handle it..its this kid.
an on the court maturity I've never seen in a high school junior with a motor to match it.

His HS team last year wasnt the best....as one HS coach told me...we did everything we could to stop him...he still beat us.

He was Gatorade Player of the Year. He was not Mr. Iowa Basketball (that goes to a senior, and lets not go down that road again as to who won it)

Are you saying that he is or isn't athletic? Im not following.

I saw good shooting, but I saw dunks, blocks, attacking off the bounce, going hard to the rim in traffic. Jok was excellent at one thing, Joe does a whole bunch of things really well.

He was recruited because...it would be insane to not recruit him. Hes the best player Fran has signed to this point.

2.0 implies an improved model. I'm saying Wieskamp could possess the shooting of Jok with much greater athletic ability in a similar-sized body. Hence, Jok 2.0. Often, Fran's recruiting tries to improve on similar successful players at Iowa and he sells the idea that they can be better. White to Uthoff to possibly Nunge is an example of such a recruiting line.

I haven't seen Wieskamp play, just tapes, but I think he already has a more complete game than Pete had before his senior season. I love his prep to shoot when he is spotting up.

With the caveat that he hasn't signed yet of course.......

seen him play against nephews' team several times...he is not the shooter that Jok is (yet) but agree more complete would be fair to say.

Agree they are different players. From a pure shooting stroke, you would be hard-pressed to find someone as good as Jok. Wieskamp's game is different, especially if you compare him to Jok as a high school player. More attacking of the hoop, better defensive player. I wish Wieskamp was joining Iowa this fall. He would be able to help a B1G team right now.

From everything I've heard, he is absolutely rock solid in his commitment to Iowa, no matter who might come calling. Anyone heard otherwise?

No one has heard otherwise. Anything is always possible until the player signs the LOI, of course, but he has been very firmly committed to date.

Would rather have Dale Jones for a year than Wieskamp at all... if there was ever a guy who is likely to transfer before he even sets foot in Iowa City, it's this guy. Where exactly is this guy going to play? Garza is a true 5. Wiescamp is going to get minutes with Moss, Williams, JBo, Dailey and Ellingson already there? Plus at that size he will get broken in half.

Unless Fran leaves Joe is a Hawkeye. Oh, and Fran isn't leaving anytime soon.

Absolutely love his shot. Quick and repeatable. Release at the top is very Jok-esque. Looks like he's placing the ball at the top of the rim for a layup even when he's shooting from deep.

Another Gatorade Player of the Year. Garza also got it for the DMV. The Gatorade POY is often the top player in the state(or area for Garza). Top 3 for certain. That ain't no small thing. We have some very good talent coming in. I hope Fran can keep it rolling!

Love Wieskamp. Absolutely, he could be better than Peter Jok-- certainly as an all-around better player.

Any position he desires. Answer.
