Well, there you go....Another McCaffery miss!![]()
I know Joe and his family VERY well. In fact just, just talked to him last night. He is such a GREAT kid. Works his tail off practicing, and is very grounded. Can't wait to see what he does this year and the next two (and of course...at Iowa!). It's hard for me to believe that he is still just a Sophomore sometimes.
GO HAWKS!!!
Good comparison. He's really really good. There's some Devon booker in his game.I saw Luke Kennard play when he was a sophomore and Joe Weiskamp compares favorably to him at that age. In my opinion, similar players.

I have heard he is going to be one of the top rated recruits out of high school. I have talked to a few people from Muscatine and that he is fundamentally sound and mind you only a sophomore in high school. I have heard when his shot is on, there is no one who can stop him. Said he can shoot the 3 ball and also handle the ball and get to the rim.
I saw in the paper where PV held him to 8 points and mind you PV is a really good team. I think they will be near the top this year and also the kid could of had an "off" night. Sorry but even the good players have those at times and the kid is only a sophomore. Can he even drive yet??
I think the kid will be a steal. All his AAU film looks good and he will only get Bigger, Faster, and Stronger.
Is Joe a legit 6-6? He looks the part. Plus He looks to have good length. Any idea on what that would be?
If he can come in with a good 6-10+ wingspan, be able to control the ball, and play Defense, look out. With that shot, he will be tough to keep off the floor come his college days.
Looking forward to some of his new highlight videos...
I don't know how much of a "steal" he is, pretty much a known commodity at this point. But you're right, he's good and will be damn good!
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/class/2018/
back from Bett...JW scored over 30 pts. has a high arch on his outside shot & free throw attempts .... No disappointment here...I don't know the kid looks good but he still is only a sophomore. I would think he isnt even close to what he can or will be...has the frame to add a lot of strength.
I realize those rankings are early, but I think he is a steal. Iowa got him before Roy boy and the other "blue bloods" started to look at him. If Iowa can keep the momentum going and can keep him committed, that would be HUGE. I think he is a solid player who only get better. He is holding his own in the top class in Iowa as a sophomore. He had some solid games last year as a freshman. I think this kid could be a special talent.
I also realize that as time goes along I am sure he will drop in ESPN's rankings, cause he committed to Iowa. They will take away a star or two for that. But Im okay with that, this kid passes the eye test to me.
So, you're saying it's a good thing that Wieskamp is coming to Iowa. Good post.Sure is fun reading positive posts talking about the future. As mentioned, it seems White and Marble were developed into pretty dang good players. Just about all the Hawkeyes that have spent the time in the program have come out playing the best basketball of their careers. And yes, that is supposed to be how it works, but one looks around, watches enough basketball, and no it doesn't work that way everywhere.
Some guys are physical wrecks! And a big part of that is from playing too many minutes, too many times, and often while already too hurt. Spike Albrecht is a good example (He's thinking of trying to come back next year by the way.) He played hurt so often, almost an entire season straight! And people were told it was painful but wouldn't get worse. Well, it must have gotten worse! Then you've got the mental cases and I'd make Terran Petteway the poster boy for that category. Oddly enough one could add Walter Pitchford in there as well!
I don't know if it's disregard when recruiting, or something about certain coaches that cause it, or maybe a combination of both. But this seems to be a problem area among many programs. Players that do not mature mentally. They don't learn anything but quit. Some even go the route of party first, play basketball second, and screw school at all. And yes, if one thinks about each coach in the Big Ten that has been around over five years there are certainly patterns.
And finally the most common problem. Players that don't improve. Yogi's a senior! A former Rivals five star who came in showing great promise. And he is a pretty dang good player. But in the fourth year of his college career where's the wow? Or Ohio State last year. Amir Williams? Former high four star, might as well have been a bench player. Plus many more on the Ohio State team like that in the past.
Yeah, we aren't perfect but we don't have a ton of guys that seem to give up. We've got guys like Anthony Clemmons, or Basabe, who had a year of struggles, and stuck around and made themselves as good as they could get!
We aren't perfect but we don't have a list of guys that partied too much, or guys that didn't improve. Or even a big list of guy that transferred.
We've got two three star guys in a row that made the First Team All Big Ten and it is looking pretty promising we've got the third coming up! (Rivals three star, cracked the top 150 at 149)
And wearing guys out? I don't think we do. Eric May had bad back problems. His minutes decreased yet we found a way to get valuable help out of him right through his senior year. Mike Gesell has played with injuries throughout his career. But look at his minutes. We've gotten what we could while being careful not to wear him out. And what a great thrill it is to see him playing his best basketball as a senior that is healthy!
So yeah, it's exciting to have a Wieskamp coming in. Even more so to have Joe Wieskamp coming into a program that knows how to make him the best basketball player he can be. .
Yogi is a first ten all BIG player, I would say he's been great. The problem is his coach is borderline retarded. There are many examples of players not living up to the hype at Indiana but I wouldn't say Yogi is one of them.Sure is fun reading positive posts talking about the future. Thanks. In my defense the subject matter consented and was of age, legal age.
That response pretty much confirms what I thought of you. Creepy.
