John Kenny lands at Arizona

to bad he didn't cut it and didn't have what it takes to compete for a starting job,

Perhaps he realized that walkons Josy Jewel and Bo Bower cannot ever lose their starting spots now that they have more "experience" than him, regardless of their poor performance. Such things have never happened under Kirk, eh? Just ask three year starter Mark Weisman and two year starter Jake Rudock.

is that why JR is no longer on the team and MW was picked up as a unrestricted free agent?

Half of your argument about ferentz never going to a different starter is a kid that left the team after demotion.

Why do you think Jewell is a walk on? You had no clue about Coach Wallace's previous time in Georgia and now this? You should prolly attempt to do some form of research in the future. There is plenty to bitch about. Why not attempt to have a clue before bitching?

I believe Jewell was a scholarship offer right out of high school and not a walk-on. I think he was Reece Morgan's pick for a scholly. Morgan usually lobbies for one in-state player with a final scholly to give. Guys like Adam Robinson, Brandon Myers, Tanner Miler, etc. in the past.

Now Bower was a preferred walk-on.

It is going to be interesting to see if Kenney plays meaningful snaps at LB at Arizona but could not crack the 2 deeps at a position of need at Iowa. He along with Willies could say a lot about KF's ability to get the best 22 players on the field. Both of these guys are going to power 5 schools based on little, if any, playing time. I think this is interesting that other teams are willing to spend a scholly on them given this. That indicates they know something.

Jewell has been and was a scholarship player that signed his letter of intent on signing day, Bower earned a scholarship in August before the season began so he was on scholarship before playing a down, but yes he was a preferred walk on before getting that scholarship.

Yes, they have a roster spot that they opened up for a player that couldn't crack the playing field at another school. The players they accepted have a measurable amount of natural talent, and their programs are willing to take the exact same chance on them Iowa took with both.

So, if they amount to absolutely nothing, what does that say about Kirk Ferentz' abilities to get the best 22 players on the field? Was he correct in his evaluation?

The correct answer is yes because KF is deciding on what's best for Iowa, not AZ or wherever Willies winds up. It's a 100% different situation that can never be truly comparable.

Hayden Fry had 3 QB's in the late 80's to choose from. One, seeking playing time, transferred to SDSU. Was Fry's evaluation of Dan McGwire incorrect?

The answer is of course not. DM was not the best choice FOR IOWA at the time the decision was made. And the same thing can and should be said for both these players. It does not invalidate Ferentz' evaluation on either if they hit it big time with another school.

You picked a bad example. Dan McGuire was a good player that didn't start, but he was beat out at Iowa by one of our all time greats. In contrast, Ferentz benched Willies in favor of the worst WR corp in the Big 10 conference. Kenney sat behind one of the worst LB corps in the Ferentz era. There is a huge difference.

Look this kid got recruited and after three years couldn't make the two deeps. He transfers and now the jerks on this board want to blame the coaching staff for his not making it.

A bit OT, but was that linebacker for Arizona, Scooby Wright, a walk-on out of high school, or just not a highly rated recruit? Just curious, he's been a solid player.

"Wouldn't that be something if Kenny and Willies put up good numbers at their new schools. How would KF explain that one?"

He KF wins he won't have to...if he loses he's got bigger problems than to explain about kids that quit the team.

You guys can be KF apologists all you want. I will say that Willies was definitely our best athlete at wide out maybe next to Tevaun Smith. He had the potential to be a play maker, yet rarely played.

The problem is he doesn't lose and he doesn't win for the past 5 years now. Only loses 5 or 6 games and makes a bowl appearance (And loses). Figure you would sympathize.

Maybe he was a bit pissed that he was asked to play fullback when the other two "real" fullbacks were out with injuries (which he did admirably), and now that they're back, he wanted to go back to where he thought he belonged all along, and was apparently too far behind to have a shot to earn some playing time now? Nah, that couldn't be it........................

Not like he's trying to get some playing time over Dick Butkus and Ray Lewis.

did you meet w/ him specifically so you could post that on here? haha...it always sucks to lose players, but you guys act like he was a multi-year starter leading the team in tackles at LB

Have you seen Iowa play recently?

I think people are just acting like this team sucks.
