Jok opts out of Iowa

He can always return if it doesn't look good....so he isn't gone...for good.....yet.

Going to be in the extremely small minority that thinks it's better if Jok leaves.
Not poking at your opinion, but care to elaborate? My argument would be next year, we're not going to be much more than a Bubble team at best so might as well get the younger guys going since Jok can't make us a huge contender by himself.

Jok has the ability to take over a game if he so chooses. This year I hate to say it, he really passed on a lot of shots to try and get Uthoff or Gessell shots. The nights he went off, he just caught the ball and was shooting. I mean Rutgers and Illinois (BTT) he went off in both games. He has the ability to do it. Give him another year to get bigger and stronger he could be really good.

But if he leaves so be it, that would mean Iowa would lose about 98% of their scoring off of this years team, so they would need to find some impact transfers.

I think I agree with you a little. If Jok + Uthoff/Gessell/Clemmons/Woodbury couldn't make much of an impact outside of a really good 8 game stretch, I don't really think Jok + a bunch of 1st year starters is going to be able to do much either.

I kind of think it might be a good thing to just have a totally new era with all fresh faces. The "revival chapter" was a good one, but maybe starting an entirely new chapter wouldn't be the worst thing.

That said, Jok is great and I would be happy to have him on the team as a leader next year.

Jok is not opting out. He is filing paperwork to be evaluated for the NBA draft. Calipari just announced all of the players at Kentucky will be doing the same thing. If is grades out well according to the NBA scouts, he might be gone. More likely is that he will be back in black and gold next season. Marty is an idiot.

That's part of it. Plus I don't think Jok's much of a team leader of player. Might be best to start anew.

I was going to write a whole thing about it, but didn't want to come off more of a douche than I already am.

Lol makes sense. Perfectly reasonable. I'd also add that I would love to have him back. I was just playing devil's advocate above.

Based on what? Peter was more of a leader than all 4 seniors this year.

I think most would love to have him back! I was just relaying a Tweet that I had read, who knows whether it's true or not, or how much of it is true.

I see your point but I think at least being a bubble team and potentially sneaking in (I still am more optimistic than most here) is good for the program in the sense that Fran can continue to sell a streak or being relevant. We need the program to be at a point where we are in every year and the down years just mean we are borderline. We are close but without Jok we may not make the NIT imo. I do think it would help break in the youth but I'm not sure that is better for the program long term.

Sounds like a guy that would rather continue his basketball education in Europe instead of Iowa. If he is committed to a future in BB perhaps not a bad decision.

He would be dumb not to check this out. The new rules allow him to test out and get a grade. If he has some great workouts and gets a response that suggests he will be drafted high, then he could chose to go. If he gets a negative review, then he stays at Iowa with no harm done. It's a win/win for him.

Agree. He can also find out the things he needs to improve to increase his value.

Lol, have fun in Europe Peter.
I hope you know that this doesn't mean Jok is leaving Iowa this season. There is a new rule that underclassmen can participate in the NBA draft process and still return to school. It would be stupid of Jok to not do this.

I would be very surprised if he left without a degree. Based only on that Journey segment it would seem education is a priority. However, I wish him the best.

He has a chance to be a first rounder if he stays gets a little stronger going to the rim and defense. He should easily be first team big and AA canidate if he stays.

You guys are familiar with Marty, aren't you? He's trolling. Testing the waters is not "opting out". Hiring an agent would be "opting out".
I listen to all the KxNO podcasts. I have tried Marty's podcasts also (don't recall the station), but "fired" him and haven't listened to him for months. He spews so much uninformed garbage just to get a reaction. I have no time for that crap.

I've actually "fired" him twice. I loaded a new podcast app and when reloading all my podcasts, gave him another try but ended up firing him again. I can't understand why anybody advertises with him.

Hopefully everyone reads the article before commenting and relying on a dumb and misleading tweet. New rule allows them to go through the process without an agent and return to school if they withdraw their name within 10 days after the NBA combine. Same thing Swanigan is going to do for Purdue and likely many others.

Very common process. Players get a chance to get evaluated and can still go back to school. He has no reason not to do this. Doesn't surprise me in the least bit.

With the new rule, I think I read where there are roughly 3x the number of kids expected to go through the process this year compared to last (like 120ish vs 48 or something last year), including the entire Kentucky roster, even walk-ons. Honestly, they may have opened a can of worms. If there is no drawback, why not have EVERY kid on every team go through the process?
