Jok opts out of Iowa

I don't think Jok is ready for pro ball, just my opinion. He should get his degree, it will be something that nobody can take away from him. It's always good to have the fall back option, especially if you have a history of injury.

I listen to all the KxNO podcasts. I have tried Marty's podcasts also (don't recall the station), but "fired" him and haven't listened to him for months. He spews so much uninformed garbage just to get a reaction. I have no time for that crap.

I've actually "fired" him twice. I loaded a new podcast app and when reloading all my podcasts, gave him another try but ended up firing him again. I can't understand why anybody advertises with him.
If you read Cityview of Des Moines, you will read a lot about how Marty has conned companies out of a lot of money and other unsavory acts.

With the new rule, I think I read where there are roughly 3x the number of kids expected to go through the process this year compared to last (like 120ish vs 48 or something last year), including the entire Kentucky roster, even walk-ons. Honestly, they may have opened a can of worms. If there is no drawback, why not have EVERY kid on every team go through the process?

Correct. It doesn't effect their eligibility at all and gives them a chance to get evaluated. As long as they withdraw their name from the draft before the deadline (I think 10 days?) they can go right back to school. They can't hire an agent either of course.

No reason at all not to do this for anyone who has any thinking at all about going to the NBA.

Not even limiting it to the kids who are actually thinking about it, but if I'm a walk-on guy, why not do it? I'd love to tell
My grandkids some day about how I declared for the NBA draft and how I graded out. They are literally out nothing at all.

They can fill out the paperwork entering their name into the draft but they still have to be invited to the combine. For many, that wouldn't happen.

My thoughts exactly on MT!

This is a no-brainer for Jok. I'm not an NBA scout so I will not comment on the probability of Jok making an NBA roster next year, but it's an excellent opportunity to experience the process, make connections and confuirm the parts of his game that need improvement. To make an NBA roster, a player must be an athletic freak or excel in at least one facet of the game- rebounding, defense, shooting, etc. Buddy Hield went through the process last year. I'm not suggesting that Jok will replicate Hield's season should he return next year or that they are of equal talent, rather simply calling it out.

How is this news?
Wasn't this the assumption already?

With the new rules, a whole bunch of guys are going to do this. It's a no lose proposition for them.

I don't think there's much chance that PJ will grade out as a likely selection. Great shooter when open. Not very good handles. Doesn't handle contact well. Average defender at the college level.

Last week, Peter Jok told the Cedar Rapids Gazette
newspaper reporter Dochterman, that he plans to return
to Iowa and get his degree.

Not a bad move for Pete to make. I will be surprised if he grades out any higher than late first round, and I think second round is more likely.

Nothing wrong with going through the process this year to get feedback and
see what it takes to get drafted. In fact I think it would be very beneficial.

However, like Morris at ISU, both need to come back and try to really improve
their games over the summer to showcase themselves next year in college.

If you don't get drafted in the 1st Round, there it makes no sense to go early.

You may make it overseas, but probably at the expense of one final great
year and some real money.

Things change. That was before talking with Fran about the NBA. He'll most likely return, but I wouldn't fault him if he graded out well and didn't return.

I'm assuming he is just testing the waters and getting feedback on what he needs to work on. Either that or he wants to make money somewhere even if not the NBA. He is not anybody's draft boards.

I believe the NBA will tell Peter his best option is to play his senior season at Iowa. His draft position will be stronger next year with another year of college ball.

Good for Jok, I wish him the best. Is that a sign that all is not rosy with the Hawkeyes or is it a sign that he is not confident in the talent level that will be their next year?
It is a sign that the rules have changed and he can test he NBA waters without penalty. He'd be a fool not to.

"Everyone" will not get invited to the combine. Maybe expect a few more than in previous years, but not everyone who declares.
Everyone won't get an invite to the combine, but everyone that submits paperwork will be evaluated.

Jok will get a measure of his future prospects, but that's it this time around. He'll learn more about how to improve his game. He's got a long way to go to play at next level.

Marty talked today about the players had a disconnect between the players and Fran. Said it was serious. Said the Jok can't stand Fran and that the staff is upset he is going through the NBA process. He ripped the register also.

I wouldn't trust anything Marty says. He's a chronic liar.

And you know this how? Just asking because that is a heavy charge calling someone a "Chronic Liar."
I used to listen to his show via podcast and he was always fabricating stuff just to stir up listeners. Many times he would say stuff, I knew for a fact wasn't true. I think he even admits he is wrong on much of what he says. It's been a long time since I've listened to him.

A college freshman is posting quotes he finds insightful. I posted a lot of Bright Eyes lyrics in college (and several since). I've had several bosses quote Vince Lombardi in group emails (UGH! ICK!).
Yeah you're probably right. Being on here too much had me thinking the quote was about his balls smackin a teammates ol lady or something. This damn place will ruin a man. Just kidding on all of this of course.
