you can’t always get what you want!
How many times will MLB pitcher's allow a "pitch to get away from them" next year when they face Jose?
How many times will Jose hit the dirt next year when the Blue Jays face the Rangers?....provided the Jays don't trade him first.

If you wanna see a definition of "bush league", check out Jose's "viewing" of the home run he hit in game #5 today.
The Rangers specifically...and MLB pitchers in general, have this one etched into their brains. Jose...you are not bigger than the game. Pay backs are hell.

Pitchers won't have to. Baseball god usually have a way of taking care of it. He'll enjoy rehabbing that torn ACL next season, setting him up for FA at 36 with a bum knee.

The Blue Jays in general are really proud of their homers. In this era not a lot pitchers can do to retaliate.

Or, a drug test. Unbelievable power surge for a journeyman a few years back.

This is such a riddiculous part of this sport. The guy flips his bat... So let's throw a 90 mph fastball at him.

And the "bigger than the game" thing is equally silly. God forbid somebody does something interesting. And people say soccer is boring

A power surge going on like 8 years now.

Bat flipping isn't going away. It's a cultural thing. Americans are just now seeing it more regularly, 10 years from now, it will be commonplace.

Also, if you hit a 450 foot bomb to give you a late lead in a deciding playoff game, go ahead.

And baseball is not dead, dying or any other hyperbole filled adjective. By far the best professional sport playoffs.

So "showing up" someone is what makes the game interesting?
"flipping the bat" was the small part of it......it was the "stand and admire" stare and not leaving the batter's box until the ball was in the seats, that will sit in pitcher's minds.
The great ones hit it and ran the bases. Henry Aaron never viewed his shots. Teddy Baseball didn't either.
( Mickey Mantle never made eye contact with a pitcher's after knocking it out....He put his head down and ran the bases. When asked why he did this, his reply was that the pitcher felt bad enough after giving up a homer.....The only time Mick ever looked at a pitcher was after Denny McLain "grooved" Mick's home run that tied Mick with Jimmy Fox for 3rd on the HR list....Mick "tipped" his hat to Dennis when he crossed the plate.)

The guy never hit more than 16 HR before 2010 when he surged to 54. Several of those years he had 400-600 AB's.
Doesn't seem legit to me. Just saying.

Why is it "showing up" the opponent in this sport, but celebrating or having fun in others?

Ill admit this is absolutely an extreme example. I also think the slow trot around the bases can be annoying. But why should a guy get thrown at for staring at his HR?

"Showing up" the opposition is NEVER acceptable. Bautista's actions were bush league...and I am sure he'll be reminded of it next season. You hit the damn ball and run the bases......celebrate in your dugout. In short......act like you've done it before. Even if you haven't.

Lol, no.

If I crushed a ball that hard in that situation I'd watch it too. Prob shake my junk while rounding third. Joey Bats has been trash talking all season and no one has thrown at him yet, why start now? No one threw at Papi when he was watching everything sail in 2013.

That's cause Papi is so damn fat he can't run...and everyone knows it. And you're wrong...Tampa Bay (Joe Madden) threw at Papi more than once. Part of the large dislike the two teams have for eachother.
Someone is goin' to remind Bautista to run the bases afgter hitting it long and not spend so much time staring and flippin' the bat. He really looked like a punk, when he should have looked like a hero.

I'd like to see him just walk around the bases at a very slow pace or run as fast as he could the next time he blasts one. Solely to see the reaction of the players/fans/announcers.

Is it bush league when the pitcher yells and fist pumps back to the dugout after striking a guy out in a similar situation?

Long live bat flips.

Things like this need to happen all of the time in the US.

Why don't NFL defenses target a guy that spikes a football after a TD? Why don't NBA teams target a guy that flexes or poses after a monster dunk or a posterizing dunk? Why don't hockey teams target a guy that fist pumps and celebrates a goal?

Because none of those leagues have idiotic unwritten rules resulting from their manhood being so fragile a guy having a good time is a threat.

Baseball fans and players (specifically pitchers) act like golfers, they love themselves some non-written rules. How dare you have fun! Need to fast forward 30 years to get all these tight ass old white people dead.

This x infinity. Pitchers need to not get in a bunch over something meaningless.

Admire and bat flip away Jose.

He may get drilled, but I've gone from being the old-school guy to not really minding most of this stuff. NFL players have done a huge variety of dances & celebrations over the years after scoring. NBA players often grandstand after a big dunk or 3 (go watch old Reggie Miller highlights). Why not baseball players? Don't like the Bautista bat flip? Don't give him a pitch he can hit 400 feet to knock you out of the playoffs.

Like with the NFL, I'm very happy to draw the line at open and direct taunting and the use of props. If it's celebration, play on. A previous poster was right, batters admire long balls and pitchers stand out and pump their fists and yell after big strikeouts. Where's the problem?

Amen! Couldn't agree more

Simple, don't give the Blue Jays 6 outs in the inning and that becomes a meaningless solo shot.

Baseball players are the biggest pansies.

If you don't want him to watch a home run and flip his bat, don't let him hit a home run. That's all there is to it.

Well put.

I'm in this boat too. Used to be an old school guy, now I enjoy watching them have fun. There is a line between taunting and celebrating. Other sports seem to get that, whereas baseball still seems to think that celebrating is taunting. I could have done without the stare at the pitcher, but it only lasted about one second. Other than that, everything else was celebrating to me. Pointing at the pitcher, talking trash while running the bases, staring down the opposing dugout - those are taunting. Flipping your bat and screaming is celebrating.

I like it...spice up the game, make it more interesting. There's a reason that baseball fans are 60 year old white dudes.

Although the Cubs making the World Series would be a huge bump.

Jesus, and they say the NFL is the No Fun League...

Maybe the Rangers should've pitched better.

Pitchers pitched fine. Maybe if the infield doesn't take a collective dump and forget how to catch the ball on three straight plays the might win

ah the old ratings argument which doesn't take a host of other factors into consideration.

What are these other factors? The other sports don't seem to be having this problem

Sidenote question- Who was the guy for the Giants that used to hit homeruns and then hold his arm down when he was trotting around? Think it was called"one flap down" or something like that. Played in the 80's and maybe the 90's. I know it wasn't Chili Davis, but I think CD played on some of those Giant teams.
