Josh Jackson 50-50 on NFL

I wonder about Daniels leaving......Kirk said a couple players have to make a decision.

I'd love to watch him play one more year, but he really needs to take the money.

But he'll be welcome at Kinnick forever.

It depends how much he loves playing college football. If he really loves it and has unmet goals, you never know.

If the NFL thinks Josh is a 1st rounder than he is gone. Beyond 1st round? Josh just might role the dice and come back for his senior year. No inside info. Maybe a bit of wishful thinking on my part.

I'd love to have him back but after seeing King's draft stock (and guaranteed $$$) drop idk why he wouldn't go. Get paid, buddy!
everyone would enjoy seeing JJ one more year as Hawk, and seems all woudl be happy for him if he goes. However, the 'legend of Dez's stock falling' needs to stop. One reason, and only one, he came back is because the feedback he received after his junior year was as a mid to late round pick. He wanted to graduate and improve his stock. He did graduate, but his draft status didn't. He's proving them all silly.

How do you all feel about Hankins? The deal with King his Sr. year was virtually nobody threw his way. Now, if you have a stud on the opposite side of the field as you it could turn into a "pick your poison" kind of deal. That being said, it might not be a bad idea for Jackson to return. Has Iowa ever had two lockdown corners playing at the same time?

King didn't get slower as a senior...he didn't get shorter...his reach didn't shrink...his draft stock didn't drop by coming back for his senior year. His perceived and actual shortcomings were present as a junior and senior, and despite winning the Thorpe award as a junior, he likely would have been drafted in a similar spot had he declared. That is why he came back as a senior. Its a feel good story to hear that a player comes back to get his diploma, but do you really think he would have returned had he received a draft grade within the first two rounds by the executive committee that evaluates potential early entrants? I think its pretty clear his draft grade was not where he wanted it and that was hte primary reason for returning as a senior.

Unfortunately the same people will continue to perpetuate these fallacies. Dez was an awesome player and seemingly a righteous dude, but he didn't come back for "Iowa"....

IMO, it would be smart for him to leave if he gets a grade back that he will be a 1st or 2nd round pick. As much as I would love for him to come back, it just doesnt make sense if you can go and get started towards that 2nd contract....which is the key.

If Jackson thinks Iowa has a legitimate chance at winning the BIG next season, he could possibly come back, but other then that he will go. The NFL made a mistake on King, he is proving he was a first rounder. Jackson should probably go, with all the anthom kneelers, he had better get his money while some people are still watching the NFL games. ;)

I’m behind Josh on whatever he wants to do. He’s earned it and I’d like to see him cash in if the projections have him going in the first 2 rounds. No reason to come back and put yourself at risk. Getting drafted does nothing but help us in recruiting.

Slow your roll :D
Manny was also a "lockdown" corner (and our "best" returning cb) 12 months ago ;)

OP-That is JJs nice way of saying farewell....

No idea what his transcript looks like, but it's Jackson's 4th year at Iowa. Assuming he didn't switch majors too many times, he's almost certainly on track to graduate in May. The mocks I've seen have him going late in the first round. If he's a virtual lock to get drafted on the first two days, he should go unless he thinks he can substantially benefit from another year with Parker. Or if he just wants to play another year of ball at Iowa.

I’ve said it before but Jackson is the type of player that could improve his draft stock by coming back. Improving in run support and zone coverage could make him the top CB off the board. He is already a very good athlete with great size/length- that’s not going to change, barring injury.

King (as others have mentioned) wasn’t going to improve his draft stock by coming back. He would have slipped anyways because of his height and his perceived lack of athleticism.

If he gets a grade in the first three rounds, which he likely will, he absolutely must go pro. One wrong play and it could all be over for him. Better to get that signing bonus guaranteed in your pocket. If all else fails you can pay for the rest of school to finish your degree later on.

Thinking of he guys that left early under Ferentz
Dallas Clark, obviously the right decision
Fred Russell, wrong choice as he didn’t get drafted, but I think he was mentally done with college. Wouldn’t have gotten drafted if he came back.
Shonn Greene, right choice, wouldn’t have gone higher if he came back
Bryan Bulaga, right choice
Reilly Reiff, right choice

I can think of two guys that could have left early that didn’t. Gallery went #2 after he came back. Maybe he made the right choice since he got paid big time, but he got stuck on a bad team with a coaching carousel. King came back, which likely was a mistake. I don’t think we can say if his senior year hurt or helped his draft stock. He’s just one of those guys that was underrated in recruiting and in the draft. Maybe not the best measurable, but he sure can play football once the ball is snapped.

The thing that cost king if anything by coming back it allowed him to goto the senior bowl where he got toasted by everybody and the safety talk started

I want to say first off you can Count me in the class of people who thinks early entries ultimately helps our draft profile, therefore recruiting profile. Also as all of you know we typically have very good CBs and we will again next year.

But from a pure money standpoint, and if I'm wrong somebody please correct me, there's a major difference in guaranteed money first round to second round and especially third round.

If he is a first round pick he absolutely should go, it's good for him and good for us. Second round is debatable but still a pretty good choice. Third round, it honestly doesn't make a lot of sense outside of potential injury or just being "done" with school.

Now if he runs in the mid to low 4.4s at the combine which I think he will. I believe he will be a top 30 pick. Maybe 20...

Just my opinion

On another note Manny will rebound next year, the thing he still struggles with his tracking the ball in the air. Same with OJ, they struggle getting their head around. Honestly just not very long ago my uncle was complaining about the number of NFL D-backs that struggle with that. Dez and Jackson were elite at that.

Another reason why it's so baffling Dez dropped so low. Everyone in here talking about his measurable's is right. I never expected him to be higher than a third round pick, but he clearly plays faster on tape, has always been able to recover down the field and has long arms, great timing and quite frankly as I've said before he has about a 2 inch Neck, if he had a normal neck he would've been 6 foot tall.

Hankins improved every snap and he is another one I think will be elite and we have plenty of options on the team and coming through. Quite frankly Hawkeye game film said some very nice things about Boswell in the spring & in the fall. These other guys keeping him off the field is very telling, in my mind!

I support Jackson to the League. He might as well get started in the NFL! I'm not so concerned about keeping him around in part because of the recurring emerging star defensive back scenario that's been playing out here. Our recruiting would be bolstered by Jackson's first round selection if that indeed happens. It would be great if he stayed but, he has to look out for himself too. Plus he will have graduated.

Back in the days of Greene, Bulaga, Reiff I always thought the players should come back and help the team achieve bigger goals, but as time passes I realize that one of the best things these Hawks have going for them is the NFL picture wall in the practice facility. I've never seen it in person, but a friend who has says the look on a recruit's face when they're standing in front of it is priceless. "Don't you think you can be the next _____?" So, go to the NFL, it helps us out in the long-run.

Regardless of whether coming back hurt his stock or not, coming back definitely didn't help because no one threw to King's side the entire season. He was not able to show what he is now showing in the NFL. Josh just put up crazy numbers and if he's graded in the first 3 rounds, he should probably go.

I would like to know what King was projected for before and after the Senior Bowl. I don't think anyone can deny his play there hurt his stock.

15 yard penalties and being late to workouts is what hurt King as much as anything else.Ask to step down as Captain a game or 2 didn't look good.

It would be awesome for Iowa if Jackson stays. But we are loaded with options at CB and Safety.
Safety: Gervase, Snyder, Hooker, Stone, Colbert, Brents, & Craddieth.
CB: Ojemudia,, Rugamba, Hankins, Boswell, Creamer, Turner, Harrell, Johnson & Roberts.

Some untested talent, but Parker has a track record of developing. In that group you have 2 Srs, 3 Jrs, 3 So, 4 RS Freshmen and 4 True Freshmen for next fall. If Jackson comes back, that adds one more Sr to the group, meaning less opportunities for others to play.

Having a Senior like Jackson, will be a huge get. Unless he doesn’t want to be all-in for the FB Season. Money is money. He will make his.

Jackson will have to see his draft stock. Determine if its worth trusting those blowhards. Then go for it.

Stay healthy. Best of luck!!

I love him as a Hawk, but I hope he goes........life changing money around the corner and I would hate to see him put that in jeopardy.......He seems like a good kid and needs to capitalize on his current popularity..........
