Jovon Johnson

I had no clue. Thanks a bunch for posting this!!

Great job Jovon!! Nice to see he has had quite the productive football career.

He also seems to be quite active in community service. Quality dude! Would love to see him back as an honorary captain some day. Another reason to be proud you're a Hawkeye!

A CFL Devensive MVP and NFL defensive MVP played on the same Iowa team and both were defensive backs, pretty damn incredible.

Phil Parker...when it’s all said and done...wow the guy can coach!

I'm kinda surprised that more folks haven't been aware of how prolific Jovon had been in the CFL. His best playing days are likely behind him ... but it's a credit to him that he's still earning a paycheck playing the game he loves!

They were pretty solid back then and for Jovon to still be playing is impressive. I wonder if his coaching days will increase after he retires from CFL. Can't wait to see how well trained Terry Roberts was under Johnson.

Long-time reader, first time poster.

The most outraged I have ever been in Kinnick Stadium involved Jovon Johnson. In 2005 against Michigan sitting in the north end zone, the Michigan QB throws a pass and Jovon jumps the route and is in perfect position to tie (or break?) Nile Kinnick's interception record. The Michigan receiver mugs Jovon from behind blatantly grabbing both arms so he can't make the INT. The ball hits Jovon in the chest and the flags fly. But wait...…. for some reason Dave Witvoet and his merry band of Michigan homer referees huddles to discuss the penalty. They then announce the pass interference penalty against Jovon Johnson! That play, and the many other pro-Michigan calls made in this game by Witvoet, proved to me first hand the "assistance" teams like Michigan get.

Absolutely! I still remember that play too! Has to be one of the worst calls of all time!

Probably the worst officiated game I’ve seen in 45 years of following Iowa football. Given Witvoet’s known ties to Michigan football, you couldn’t help but suspect some corruption. I’m still mystified that they could call PI on the wrong team, especially considering that the penalty was so blatantly committed by Michigan. Mind blowing.

I forget the other one, but I’m pretty sure there was another horrendous and costly blown call that went against the Hawks in that game, too. Also seem to recall Michigan OL holding with impunity with hardly any calls.

Those are great pics! Love seeing our guys come back to Iowa City as adults, taking in the game day experience and probably having some great ‘glory days’ moments.

Definitely a poorly reffed game, and ended the home streak. But let's not forget about the 2006 Outback Bowk for terrible officiating, that tops the list.

I remember that play. I had my wife's engagement ring in my pocket and was gonna propose on the field after a win. That play largely ruined my plans.
