JT Barrett

I don't remember, TBH. I may have felt differently 10+ years ago. If JTB had been arrested in the off season I would be less aggravated by a 1 game punishment.

It aint about OSU. They will be fine either way. It is more about the message it sends to the starry-eyed 12 year olds that look up to these guys.

The starry-eyed 12 year olds have already made fun of the 35-year-olds who are riding their bikes around because they've had their driver's licenses suspended. I don't think you're giving them enough credit.

Seems like a pretty light punishment for underage AND drunk driving. I thought drunk driving was kinduva a big deal. Guess I was wrong, as usual.

The OSU football program is not solely responsible for his punishment. There are consequences beyond a 1 game suspension. Iowa's punishments have rarely been more severe for this type of thing.

Maybe YOU should be your child's role model and example.
.

Well, given that I don't do drugs or drive drunk, (I rarely drink any more), it would be difficult to provide them with an example or "teachable moment" like this.

Look, whether your kids look up to you or not, they are going to be influenced by famous or "flashy" people. I just think this punishment is light and sends a bad message.

Then they should broadcast the pre-trial conference where his lawyer will enter a guilty plea for a misdemeanor after a court official takes attendance and it becomes apparent that half the people summoned to court didn't even show up. Again, I think Barrett's a first time offender. He'll be on probation and he'll probably have to comply with some substance-abuse counseling as a part of a diversion program or a deferred judgment (or Ohio's equivalent). He'll also have to sit out a game. I don't see how that's too light. You shouldn't be punished more severely than another citizen just because you're QB for OSU.

What a great example to show young kids...o_O If I had a young impressionable son or daughter who was a huge CFB fan or (god forbid) an O$U fan, I would be PISSED. Drugs and alcohol should be a ZERO tolerance policy with college athletes, with a minimum suspension of 1/3 of the season.
Really? Well the rest of us iowa fans are glad that's not the penalty. Get off your high horse.

There is no deferred judgment in Ohio. He can avoid the mandatory three day minimum jail sentence by attending a three day ovi program. Btw, Barrett is underage. Therefore the prohibited level of alcohol in his system is not .08. The prohibited level is .02. He tested over four times the legal limit.

No, it really doesn't. What I would need to know is what WAS the punishment? If it was reasonable, I would have no problem with him starting after it was completed.

I have a good memory, it's just very short.

I believe this was JF's second offense and he was suspended for a year.

James Ferentz got caught with a group vandalizing public property. After his punishment, he started for the rest of his career. Tells you everything you need to know about Iowa.

Yes, but what you didn't know is that he was then placed on double secret probation. By the way, does UNI not have a message board? Just wondering.

They do, but I'm an Iowa fan (and alum, which makes me a better fan than any mere fan unless that mere fan is also a donor in which case they're better than me).
