That's a surprise. But will he stay committed?

Huge Wisconsin DT prospect Juan Harris announces commitment to Indiana

Kind of a far cry from Ohio St and Alabama but whatever. He'll be going toe to toe with the Paulsens Wirfs and Kallenberger in the future. We'll see who got the better deal.

I wish him well in his football career ... Indiana seems like an odd choice - picking a school known for having a horrible defense with a head coach who is 20-41 overall and 8-32 in the conference. But, this is also the same kid who "de-committed" from us three times ... If Harris has any desire to see the NFL the road through Iowa City would have made more sense.

Playing time might have been a factor in his choice of schools...or others backed off for now. Everyone knows it could change another couple times before Feb. Alabama might still be holding a schollie for him.;)

Agree with this, but in order for this guy to have any shot at the NFL he needs to understand that it will require a lot of hard work. His conditioning cannot be what the Hawkeye coaches would look for at this stage.

I honestly don't pay attention to Indiana - do they run a 3-4 where he could play NT? That would seem to be the only way his body type could translate to the NFL.

I'd bet people he will never play a down in the NFL and I'd be willing to give 5 to 1 odds on that bet.

Hoosier HC, Kevin Wilson, announced this morning that they will be using a 4-2-5 defensive scheme this year under his 3rd DC..By the time Juan gets there (if he actually makes it ), they could be running something different...

I'm doubting this kid makes it past his RSFR year. My guess is that a lot of schools have backed off him and Indy was about the best he could do.

He has Iowa Western...or any JC really.....written all over him. And, then disappearing into regular society. This makes my head hurt.....if he really had multiple offers.....why Indiana?

If for some reason he makes it there....he will always play on poor defenses....probably have a new coach before a sophomore year....never play in a bowl game...and playing Purdue is the pinnacle of his experience there.

Il go back to my original thought on his 15th or 16th de-commitment ....who on earth who has the chance to play with AJ would not jump at that chance......this gets a little more strange with each passing month.

Indiana just hired a new D-Coordinator from South Florida. Not sure what type of set up he will install. He's like the 5th D-Coordinator/co D-Coordinator under Wilson ... Considering Wilson has only been there about 6 years ... Well ... He's yet to find the answer on defense.

Let's remember, just because a 16-17 yr old kid is indecisive doesn't take away his skills on the football field. He still attends camps and still dominates the competition. He still has a frame unlike any we've seen in a Hawkeye uniform. I think the kid is still going to be a stud on the field (and I've heard nothing to think he's not a good student either).

I still hope he ends up a hawk. The guy could be a 3 yr starter wherever he goes.

I would venture to guess that most programs have been very clear to him about their expectations about his eventual physical development. Places are invariably wanting him to drop a ton of weight ... and the prospect of dropping that much weight scares the crap out of considering how much work it will be.

Harris is a high risk, high reward sort of recruit. He's a guy who is pretty explosive and he has an uncommon combo of size and strength. All that potential means little if you cannot realize it ... nor does it matter if you don't have the conditioning to play many snaps per game.

And how many plays would he be able to play a game at 360 pounds? Carl Davis had conditioning issues when he was 320-325 and he has a few inches on Juan.

I agree. I obsess over the roster, stats, and recruiting .... I had Harris down as a high-risk/high-reward recruit. I didn't see him EVEN CONTRIBUTING at a high level until 2019 ... and that wouldn't even have been as a starter. Had his development worked out favorably ... I would have seen him as a 2-year starter.

He will be a short yardage/goal line stopper exclusively until he gets down to around 330. Very few guys can be effective above that weight.

You mean overweight?
And apparently haven't seen his lack of grammar and spelling.

I agree with your assessment. I saw a lady at a Buffet in Des Moines the other night that had a frame and build unlike anyone seen just as Juan. She did not look to athletic. LOL

I call them "run-stuffers" and think of big old NT in a 3-4 system.

By the time Mr. Harris gets there... they'll be running a 1-5-5 defense.

I guess I had the same reaction as many of you. I can't imagine why he would go to Indiana after he seemed to be pretty high on himself after some of the other big teams were looking at him. I hope things straighten out for him but I think this kid is going to have a rough time in life.

Very, very good post! I also hopes he has a good life because I think he has a lot obstacles ahead of him.

I would venture to guess he'll never play s down of FBS football. No indicators, I've seen anyway, that would make me want him near the Iowa Football Program.

Why? Because the interest/offers from other schools wasn't real.

I think the interest may have been there but no offer. My point is that he spurned a really good program and a school that has sent a few players to the NFL in his position. I feel bad taking a shot at Indiana but they are a clear step below Iowa... especially on defense.

You are making the assumption that he spurned Iowa.

Pretty sure iowa told him to move on after he went back to Wisconsin and decommitted again.
