Jrs are double champs
14u went 12-2 got 2nd in fs and lost on criteria on Greco or could have just as easily been in the finals, finishing 5.
16u I believe made the gold bracket and finished Top 5/6 in both fs and Greco as well.
Iowa wrestling is differently on the upswing.

Pretty insane- I never thought I would see the day when Iowa won a Greco title. One thing is for sure looking at the rosters- Iowa takes this tournament a hell of a lot more seriously than anyone else. Almost everyone on our roster either has won or will win 3 or 4 state titles (including Frosts and Franklin). The other teams, even in the Gold bracket, would have a few state champs and then bunch of place winners and a couple qualifiers and forfeits. Did Pennsylvania even bring a team? Still, some great matchups in most duals with Riggins/Jordan Williams probably the highlight. Block had a big one too over Bailey.

I surveyed a few teams like Oklahoma and Ohio and their freestyle state champs were there. In the finals against Ohio, they had some credentialed dudes…two of their biggest names lost to us. The state of Iowa is stacked right now. Sebolt took just his guys to PA (I think) last year and beat a lot of good All Star teams…they lost in the finals. All Iowa kids except for one I think.

Beating Shumate is a huge win. Congrats Voelker!

What Sebolt is doing is reminiscent of the early Young Guns days.

Well coached and well prepared. Sebolt might be the best club in the country right now.

Agreed. That plus Big Game lit it up. I do think their guys went undefeated in freestyle. While there might not be a lot of top ten p4p guys (with Kueter and maybe Nate being the exception), just a lot of real solid, borderline elite kids. Mirikitani was on the mic and he was pretty impressed with the lack of holes in the lineup. Sebolt foray into Eastern Iowa should build it up even more.

no state has a 'lot' of p4p's. of my top 20 all class 13 different states are represented. ia is one of 4 w/ multiple.

ia hs is in a great place.

and they have good leadership. a lot of whiners opined that if their state sent their best things could have been different. well, get better leadership.

No doubt abpoiut it - if every state sent their best, the matches would have been different. Maybe not the outcomes though. Iowa has a pretty salty group there.

I can only speak for Illinois, but I barely knew the kids on their team. Not their best kids, but also, Illinois' best kids are not as good as they were a few year ago. Our state seems to be slipping and Iowa is on the upswing.

Congrats to the Iowa wrestlers and the leadership and coaches that made this happen. Enjoy the ride!!!
