Is someone saying only the top 10% should foot the bill? That would be news to me. And it's certainly not how we pay the bills now.
Which is to say that I don't object to making sure everyone has at least a little skin in the game - even if it's only a token contribution from the least well off.
I still have family in Norway; they would probably be second or third cousins. My sister went there with our uncle when she was just out of high school. He still spoke Norwegian and they stayed with extended family. I wish I would have been old enough to go with. Definitely on my bucket list.
The top 10 percent of earners bore responsibility for 76 percent of all income taxes paid, and the top 25 percent paid 89 percent of all income taxes. Altogether, the top 50 percent of filers earned 90 percent of all income and were responsible for 98 percent of all income taxes paid in 2021.
The income tax currently varies between a total of 37 percent (for taxpayers who pay bottom-bracket tax and who do not pay church tax) and a total of 53 percent (for taxpayers who pay top-bracket tax and who also pay church tax). Your personal income tax rate is stated in your tax card.
n Sweden, the average single worker faced a net average tax rate of 24.3% in 2022, The Swedish VAT system is harmonised with the EU rules. The general VAT rate of 25% is chargeable on most goods and services.

Government expenditures are around 50% of GDP. Robust safety net, payments to families for each child along with excellent government subsidized healthcare and education for everyone. Everything that would make conservative's head's explode.
