Just visited SpartanTailgate....

I have visited several message boards and the general consensus is that they will just kill us. They are very confident which is fine but they they think we suck.

It seems like forever since we played them but what I remember most is how dirty they were on the field. I haven't watched them this year or recently for that matter so maybe they've cleaned it up?

Narduzzi is gone so they don't seem to have the same tactics they used to

They have reason to be a little cocky. They're 6-1 in the last seven games against the AP Top 5. They've won 8 more games than Iowa in the past 3 years. This is their 3rd trip to Indianapolis. That's the difference 6 years make. Back in '09, they wanted to be like Iowa. They did and much more.

Well, uh......I guess we'll just have to make that record 6-2 after Saturday, then huh......

I only hope their players share their fans' arrogance. Once the game starts, it may be too late for Sparty to take the game seriously.

There is a zero % chance the MSU players and coaches will take Iowa for anything less than extremely serious.

I bet Dantonio is telling his players you won at Nebraska, are undefeated, we are the underdogs here, let's get after it, etc.

What I do like is the fact that MSU has experience on this stage and is 6-1 in last 7 vs top 10 teams.

The RCMB is a bunch of neanderthals. If you want real analysis, let me recommend Mr. Hondo P. Carpenter's message board at spartannation. He will blow your mind.

I was just in Michigan for the weekend. The attitude up there, and really anywhere that people haven't spent a whole lot of time watching this team, is that this might as well be an FCS team. The disrespect for the Big Ten West is large. Guess we'll just have to go out and beat them.

I certainly think we have a chance, but we better win the turnover battle, be creative on offense(will need to be on our pass game), and be willing to take chances on D. Michigan State should feel confident. They are very good, experienced and physical and have been in many big games. Here's to a great game, maybe a 57 yard FG for the win;)

No reason Sparty shouldn't be confident. The Neb game was a fluke and they be OSU in COlumbus. We have some nice wins, buy nothing like an OSU win.

We are confident because this team is laser focused and wins on the big stage. Cook and Calhoun came back specifically for this moment.

MSU is built right now to win it all. Iowa is really good but lacks that top end talent.

Keep telling yourself that. I guess Nebby forgot that. I remember hearing the overrated chant in that game. Hawks win by 10.

It's amazing how often "lack of top end talent" is used when describing Iowa yet half of the guys playing on the field right now will be playing on Sundays some day as well.

Along these lines, I had to laugh when the commentators during a game last night -- Stanford/ND, I think -- were talking about how MSU's talent is superior to Iowa's. Then, a couple of minutes later, they went on to talk about how MSU's roster is full of 2- and 3-star guys that nobody else wanted. Well, guys, which is it? Superior talent, or guys with average talent who have been coached up? It can't be both.

The whole talent debate is pretty goofy, IMO. As you say, Iowa consistently puts lots of guys in the NFL, yet everyone rips on our talent level. I'm not going to claim we have top-tier talent across the board. That said, talent is good to a point in football, but when you have a group that's united and playing as one, putting team first, and out-working the competition, that group can accomplish a lot more than a team with superior individual talent that isn't playing as well together. Yes, talent is important, but you can overcome that gap with great team play, which is exactly what Iowa has done all year.

It will be a tough physical game. The team that avoids mistakes has the best chance.

Iowa develops talent more than it recruits it. James Daniels is a talent right off the bat, but that is the exception to the rule for us. For those that say we don't have talent, look at the # of players in the NFL.

This. We deserve everything we are getting thrown at us with our schedule. If you want to be considered one of the top 4 in the nation then you have to be willing to play top 10 teams including some at their place or on neutral fields. I never see this duo willing to put ourselves out there like that. When you don't then you have to be willing to face the criticism.

We generally do not have skill position talent & that is what wins games when you swim with the big programs. The "new Kirk" will need to be able to recruit skill players & then play the best one each year accordingly. I don't see that happening any time soon.

What? The Big10 makes the schedule. We didnt choose to not play OSU, etc.

We played two power 5 teams before the Big 10 season. You dont know what a Pitt will be when you set the schedule 5 years out.

Someone correct me but I believe the west has a winning record with the east.

I find this so lame with such a small sample size and very few 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, etc. match ups either way.

MSU is darn good and anyone who beats OSU anywhere, especially at OSU is upper tier crust in my book. They have arguably the #1 QB in the next NFL draft (barring bad shoulder) so that should scare us when we had a tough time stopping Mitch Leidner, Austin Appleby, etc. We are huge underdogs in this game.
