Just visited SpartanTailgate....

I would like to see a good SEC team on the schedule, preferably for a late November game in Iowa City.
yeah i would love to see any SEC team travel north in November. It should be a home and home...none of this neutral field stuff in SEC country. BIG team should play at SEC school in September when its hot and play at BIG school in November. But I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen. MSU had a home/away scheduled with Bama in 2016-17, but the Tide cancelled it. Mama have since added USC in 2016 (in Texas) and FSU in 2017 (in Georgia).

Well you have an opening in your schedule for another non-conf opponent starting in 2019. What type of an opponent would you like to see Iowa schedule? A perennial top 10 team...top 25 team, middle of the pack P5 team or slightly above cupcake?

What difference does it really make? A team like Iowa is going to have to go undefeated to be included in the playoff discussion/rankings. I want Iowa to schedule a team that makes sense for the team we anticipate having that year.

The opening on the 2019 will certainly be filled by a one-off "buy" game. MAC, Sun Belt, etc.

Win or lose I will be pulling for the B1G in the playoffs. Obviously, you know who my preference is.[/QUOTE]
I agree with you. This week I am hoping my Hawks dominate and everything that could possibly go wrong for Mish St does goes wrong. I will be happy with a 1-point Hawkeye win but would rather see a 40 point beatdown (not that I think that will happen....just demonstrating my point). but after the game I hope Sparty kicks the crap out of their next opponent whether that is the playoffs or a bowl game. I always root for every B1G team when playing outside the conference.

This is going to be a classic game! Epic! If the Hawks win this one, it will be one for the ages. I expect Sparty to jump over us in the CFB poll. Don't think Dantonio to be able to sell the underdog role. Las Vegas has Sparty as a 4 pt. favorite. That said, I don't think the Hawks are an easy out. We've played against some really tough defenses this year. We've also played against some very good offenses too. We just seem to find a way to win. Our team, they may not be pretty, but they put out. I expect a great game. Go Hawks!
P.S. Dantonio is 3-4 against Iowa.

Cook is a very good QB, but I am more scared of the running guys like Barrett. We should go after Cook hard. Beathard is a better runner than he is.

We don't go after anybody "hard."

How much Iowa football do you even watch?

Also, Cook's stats are actually better when he's under pressure than when he's not.

We ran a blitz on Armstrong which helped cause the pick 6 by Hesse. We don't blitz a whole lot, I wish we did a bit more. If we can get some sort of rush on Cook from the front 4, that would be great.

Well, then this might be a good time to do it. They won't be looking for us to blitz. There should be no fear of Cook getting away and running.

JFC, you realize that there are other potential issues with the blitz, right, especially against an extremely accurate senior QB?

hawkinator...you make a nice point. I don't know why he does that but he actually plays better when the games are nasty close and the defense is flying all over the field. When he makes mistakes....and he makes them....they tend to come early in the game.
I'm a lifelong Spartan and even after all these great, successful years under Dantonio I still keep waiting for the Spartans of old to show up and do something colossally stupid. A pick, a stupid personal foul, can't collect an onside kick.....the kind of thing the Michigan punter pulled in our win over them.....but for some weird reason they just don't happen anymore. Obviously better coaching and better players.....even still.....
I keep thinking something bad will happen. I don't know how you folks in Iowa feel, but many of us Spartans have gotten spoiled these past few years....both FB and BB. I'm still adjusting to it.
Have a great game. I've always admired the Hawkeyes. Ferentz has always been a solid, solid guy. No funny business coming out of Iowa City.
I want you to play really, really well....but I want to win.
