Good call.He came on strong the back half of the year and really showed up in the postseason, minus some bad turnovers. Pretty lanky for his size so he’s a pretty capable defender.
Not sure he’s starter material in the B1G but would be a great bench piece. He and Manywau have been attached since their freshmen years at Wyoming so I assume Cam will be next.
For those skeptical or unimpressed by the commitment of Kael Combs, my first thought went to Colonel Jessup. Not saying McCollum would be quite as direct, but still, the thought popped in my head:
"I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way"
Nice step throughs and runners.
Not always. I’m a lefty and was far from crafty. 😁Besides Dix, he looks smoother and made better decisions than our guards. Leftys are always crafty with the ball. Welcome aboard!
Rodney said it best in Caddy Shack! Hey, America needs ditch diggers too....No offense to KIngsbury, who I think played well/hard as a walkon, but I'd rather have this guy Kael Combs getting minutes vs Kingsbury,
I would describe Kingsbury as Earthbound, firmly rooted to the soil, below the rim guy.
The Drake team as a unit was a round of 32 team. Makes sense to bring back as many pieces as McCollum wants.
Obviously we need some more bodies, some of which will be more flashy than others.
Why not?Agree seems like major reach here....or maybe BM just going with who he is comfortable with, which won't end well for Iowa if they just bring the Drake starting 5 to Iowa to start...
I watched several games and went to a few. Drove to KC to watch them knock off KSU. Like the players Iowa has got.I didn't watch much Drake this year but I thought he played pretty well in the tournament.
Dont forget Traroe and Miami transfer. Also Kingsbury, Jacob Koch and Buchanan still curently listed on Iowa roster.I think he's a good backup option and it sounds like he can give us some minutes at PG as well. Personally, I like Isaia Howard more and expect us to land both. Both are defense-first players with iffy outside shots so we will need to get at least one more good outside shooting guard out of the portal. If we can land Howard, Banks, a good starting-caliber shooting guard and a good starting-caliber center out of the portal, our depth chart would be something like this:
PG - Stirtz, Combs
SG - Portal, Combs
SF - Howard/Koch
PF - Banks/Koch/Manyawu
C - Portal/Manyawu
Best man wins the starting job at SF, PF and C. Maybe get another wing to give us some more depth at SF (I might be crazy thinking that Koch can play there) but the Drake guys give us a pretty solid nucleus. They were ~50ish in the overall Kenpom last season. Gotta add at least two more good players though and ideally three.
Many people now think that Traore and the Miami transfer will move on. Neither one put their names in the portal yet and roster spots have started filling up so my instincts tell me they both will likely hang around.Dont forget Traroe and Miami transfer. There's an echo in here. You can't handle the truth....![]()
