New Story **Kaevon Merriweather commits to Iowa**

High character athlete that has all the right values. This is the kind of recruit that you want to build a program with. My not get you the 12 and 0 record consistently, but rest assured you will proud of the work put in and minimize the distraction of off the field antics. This is also the kind of King, Jewel, chip on your shoulder type of kid that will out work any five star.

Interesting background here. As I recall Romulus was where Freddy Russell was from. He has been rated as a 5.3 2 star. Klemp is 5.4.

going on the record right now. If the kid maintains the workmanlike, military discipline and the injury bug dont hit, he will be a draft pick. Coach has great things to say, good fam and Iowa has the proven track record to develop him. I think he might be the next Christian Kirksey.

I thought Fred was from Inkster,Mi??

Do you remember Kahliq Price DB 6'2" 198 offered late, class of 2003 ? Phil Parker would have been his position coach. Tell me about his career at Iowa being that Phil never gets it wrong, you're on the clock. GO
Fish nets think this post has too many holes in it.

Michigan safety Kaevon Merriweather is just getting his official visit to Iowa started, but has already decided that he wants to be a Hawkeye. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Merriweather gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa coaching staff tonight.

"The family atmosphere that the Iowa coaching staff and players gave me as soon as I stepped on campus really made me feel like I was home already," Merriweather told HawkeyeReport.com.

"Also, from a football standpoint, Iowa has one of the best defenses in the country every year," he continued. "Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?"

Iowa is the first school to offer Merriweather for football, but the two-sport athlete was considering basketball offers from Western Michigan and Ferris State. Now, he knows which path he is taking in college and is happy to have the weight of his decision off his shoulders.

"It’s an amazing feeling," said Merriweather. "I’m just happy that I’m getting a college education paid for and that I can play the sport I love while doing it. I can’t wait to get to work this summer."

Overall, Merriweather is commitment No. 21 for Iowa in the Class of 2018.

See highlights from Merriweather's senior year at Belleville (MI) in the video below.

does anyone have senior yr stats for Kaevon? I cant find anything on that.

Kidding.......Iowa has had enough success with guys under the radar that I don't question them.....last guy I had serious reservations about was Josh Jackson.....

Up to 34 in the rankings. Keep in mind projected 1st round pick Josh Jackson was a 5.4 2 star. Had Merriweather played 3 years of varsity FB at one school he'd be rated much higher. Facets of Iowa football recruiting simply do not fit the empirical science of recruiting practiced elsewhere.

Now this is the kind of Harbinger273 post I’m talking about... this kid looks to have a very high ceiling anything close to a Josh J or Dez K Or Kirksey means a very good player on Iowa’s hands.

Another 2*

You guys are on a roll!

Could you imagine how much of a wood shedding we’d give Nebraska if we landed 4* Kids In comparison to the beating we already give them with 0-2* Kids?!?!?! Go get a rivalry with ISU or Michigan. ISU so you can actually win a rivalry game(maybe) and michigan because u guys have so much in common as in used to be a power house..

Rivals gave Merriweather a 2* rating and a 5.3. This kid makes me think of Geno Stone without the experience. I am sure Kaevon never attended any football camps where he would get evaluated by the recruiting rating services. He also broke into the starting lineup part way through his senior year. I like his tape. He takes great angles and plugs holes very well. His mother sounds very proud of him too!

Random, because it is not really a position of need. I wonder if this is foretelling a change in the body type for our LEO or willingness to use sub packages. We seems extra infatuated with these big safety body types that show the ability to run and strike.

Yeah, me too.

Fran needs to get him on the court.
A 6-2 195# kid with a defensive attitude is exactly what Iowa could use in their backcourt. Some needed toughness.

This kid is a really intriguing prospect. Really good athlete and seems to be the kind of athlete they are looking for in their olb spot, i kind of safey/lb hybrid in the mold of a Kirksey.

I see this young man played on the same AAU team that Devyn Marble played on a few years ago in Michigan makes me think he was late on deciding to go with FB instead of BB.
This Is why he doesn't have any rankings.

A quick, good ballhandling, nice shot, able to dribble drive PG by chance...? ;)
