If that was a backwards pass would that have been a rushing touchdown?

It looked like it, because he had to reach back for it.

What is the rule on that?

It depends on the line of the football, not where the receiver is.

It's a misconception that the receiver of a toss or pass HAS to be behind the person making the throw for it to be a legal backward lateral (i.e. a run play, statistically).

If the ball has any forward movement to it from the spot it was thrown, then it is considered a forward pass.

What's interesting about the Stratton throw is that it is almost exactly down a straight line even though KJ is ahead of where the ball is thrown.

I think it stood, statistically, as a forward pass because KJ was ahead of Stratton and it was so close as to whether or not the ball was actually on a straight line or forward at all.

Had KJ dropped it and it been ruled a fumble, I think they would've went with Call Stands.
