It isn't a cutting weight issue. The symptom of cutting too much weight is an empty gas tank in the 3rd period. KY never gasses out.

Is it our guys being out of position, or is it the the other wrestlers being better at getting to their match? I am trying to be flippant. Is our style still to wear guys down with heavy hands and high pace? Other teams aren’t going toe to toe with us and we aren’t getting off as many quality shots as we should. Is this lack of setting up good angles and being in a position to hit multiple moves? Sometimes we don’t finish when we have heavy snaps, hit a HC then to a single leg, or a dump. We end up in scrambles. I don’t think we are a particularly good scramble team.
A dominant guy can do what he wants to another. You know what’s coming and you can’t stop it. We have guys like this. Others not so much.
KY made the mistake of letting that match get dicey early, a guy like that is dangerous in those positions. You need to know how to stay patient and in favorable position in the first period , guys like that are a lot less dangerous when you bring them into deep water.
I still stand by Kaleb and say he will thrive, that said he needs to learn from this. 157 is a extremely tough weight this year and will be his toughest year to get on the podium, he will have to be at his best. I will not abandon him, I have said this before, Young is what you thrive to be. Go Hawks! Go Kaleb!

I still believe in Kaleb Young. He could very well end up a 3x AA. I have no idea how much money he gets, but I would guess its slim. Ill take him all day over some of the high end recruits that fizzled out before ever wrestling a meaningful match. He is a great guy, does everything right, and a class act. Its not just wins that makes him a great Hawkeye. (even tho nice guys dont win you national titles)
Obviously Kaleb had an awful weekend and is having quite frankly a bad year so far with what 2 "varsity" wins this year against 3 losses. Plus a few Luther Open wins. He is not and has not ever been a hammer but I still like him on the team and still think we are better with him than without. My obsession with Iowa Wrestling is not very old and my knowledge of the history is not very good but I feel like there have been guys like Kaleb and probably even less talented guys on every team that won the NCAA tournament. Looking back just very briefly how does he stack up against a guy like Morningstar, Phil Keddy, Daryl Weber, Travis Fiser, or Jeff Kerber?
If any Kaleb Young haters want to wager on him being rd12 or better this year at nationals I'd love to make a bet.

2. Young is a 3x All American. (2020 first team AA’s included Young, Monday, Coleman and Humphreys)
3. He is not losing to bad wrestlers.
4. Kaleb Young is the man who started this team. He committed to Iowa before anyone else on this team and is and has been an integral part of it.
5. He has sacrificed a lot for this team.
6. Lots of wrestlers go through a rough patch. Let him work through it.
7. He is not guaranteed a spot but no one is close to taking his spot.
8. He is a leader on this team whether you like it or not.

The difference is pretty clear. Wrestling fans are critical but appreciative and supportive. Football fans think he's awful and can't believe a top team can have a guy at a weight not ranked in the top 3.
