Well, there was a trooper standing on both sides of the car; they had both front doors open. The driver put the car in drive and started letting off the brake. As he took off, one trooper fired, killing the driver.
The Hennepin County DA consulted with a use of force expert; the expert said the state trooper followed his training and the use of force was justified. The Hennepin County DA ignored this expert's advice and filed 2nd degree murder charges.
The case got so ridiculous that the MN Governor, a Democrat, even admitted that he was ready to step in.
The charges eventually got dropped.
