A photo shared by the vice president of herself cooking Thanksgiving dinner with her husband has raised questions from conservatives about the presence of a gas stove in their kitchen, following claims earlier in the year that the Biden administration was planning to ban them.

"From our family to yours, happy Thanksgiving," Kamala Harris posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday, along with an image of herself and Doug Emhoff preparing their holiday meal.

Several people—including Georgia Republican congressman Mike Collins and America First activist Laura Loomer—pointed out the presence of a gas stove in the background. This prompted a number of comments from social media users, including Libs of Tiktok, riffing on the phrase "rules for thee but not for me."

Newsweek approached the White House via email for comment on Friday.

In January, claims that the Biden administration was planning to outlaw gas stoves—which an estimated 40 million American households have—riled right-wing figures, and played into the narrative around climate change policies that the federal government was attempting to limit Americans' freedom.

The issue stemmed from an interview given to Bloomberg by a Biden-appointed U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) commissioner, Richard Trumka Jr., which said "a ban on gas stoves is on the table" amid concerns about their impact on health.

A study published in December last year in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, found 12.7 percent of current childhood asthma in the U.S. was "attributed to gas stove use, which is similar to the childhood asthma burden attributed to second-hand smoke exposure."

"Any option is on the table," Trumka Jr. was quoted as saying. "Products that can't be made safe can be banned."

Yup, it sure does. It proves that story was nothing but another disinformation campaign from Fox News, the propaganda arm of the Republican party.
The Biden administration finalized national efficiency rules for residential gas furnaces, which will require non-weatherized gas furnaces and those used in mobile homes to achieve a 95 percent annual fuel utilization efficiency standard by late 2028. That is, manufacturers would only be allowed to sell furnaces that convert at least 95 percent of fuel into heat. The current market standard for a residential furnace is 80 percent. The new standards will phase out older furnaces and make newer models mandatory, affecting about a third of U.S. homes, and eliminate consumer choice in another appliance area. Because of the stringent requirements, the regulations would largely take non-condensing gas furnaces, which are cheaper, off the market. Replacing a non-condensing furnace with a condensing furnace would entail hefty installation costs as many consumers will need to install new equipment to exhaust gas out of their home to accommodate the higher efficiency units, the condensing units.

The rule is part of the Department of Energy’s new efficiency standards that it has proposed or finalized for 24 appliances, according to its press release. The new gas furnace rule, opposed by the American Gas Association (AGA), could prohibit 40 to 60 percent of gas furnaces currently in homes.

The story has several angles, and they of course say a ban isn’t what they’re seeking, just new regulations and incentives to make them non-competitive.
Akin to saying you won’t ban gas cars, because you will allow the sale of 150MPG models.

Consumer Product Safety Commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. ignited political frenzy this week when he said in an interview that the agency was weighing a ban on gas stoves due to health hazards, breaking with all other members of the commission and ultimately forcing the CPSC chairman to publish a statement walking back his remarks.

Myth: There is no federal effort underway to ban gas stoves.

Fact: While no single restriction in the works will categorically eliminate new gas stoves, the cumulative effect of them all would come very close in the years ahead.

Not one but two of President Joe Biden’s regulatory agencies are now targeting gas stoves. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is conducting an investigation into their safety, while the Department of Energy is pursuing first-ever efficiency regulations. Both agencies are tailoring their actions to strangle gas stoves in red tape as part of the administration’s war on fossil fuel production and use. The likely result will be gas stoves that cost more and don’t work as well, tilting the balance in favor of electric versions.

You entire previous post spoke of furnaces.

this latest post seems to cite a pretty biased source. Regardless, while the DOE has published the potential risks of gas stoves, and suggested additional regulations, I think you would agree that it does not logically follow that everyone associated with the Biden administration should immediately sell their current gas stove. Right?

So furnaces not stoves

And it's not a ban

Help us out, here

For what reason(s) would anyone who acknowledges the threat of man made climate change, and could afford to replace their fossil fuel burning stove, not do so?

No single rain drop holds itself responsible for the flood.

Meanwhile:

It turns out that the world's richest 1 percent emit about the same amount of carbon as the world's poorest two-thirds, according to an analysis from the nonprofit Oxfam International.

This means that a small sliver of global elites, or 77 million people, have produced as much carbon as the 5 billion people that make up the bottom 66 percent by wealth, per the study.

What rule do you feel is being flaunted by Harris while you are being subjugated by said rule?
Exhibit A of the defend till the enders...
I'll keep it simple.
Kamala is #2 in command of the liberal dem party.
Multiple liberal run states are actively moving to ban gas stoves in order to reduce global warming and save the planet.
But rather than lead by example, the #2 lib in the country of course has a gas stove.
It's literally always this way with politicians, and the fact so many of you fervently defend them is sickening.

Exhibit A of the perpetually aggrieved and misinformed

No state in the union has made its citizens get rid of gas stoves
Some Democrats in the house sided with Republicans in prohibiting any federal ban, so not every lib Democrat is aligned with a ban
Why would a politician have to align with every single initiative that a party makes?
The Biden admin stated they would not support a ban, why do you feel Kamala should take a position counter to Biden?

Lastly, what did I defend by asking you a direct question?
If there was an actual ban you may have a point, since there is not, you sound foolish.

They’re coming for furnaces and stoves.

If the government said tomorrow that only cars with 100 mpg efficiency can be sold, that’s a ban on a lot of cars, isn’t it? Or do you consider it not a ban, because some hybrids claim that equivalent in mileage?

Well I'm not an idiot so I don't care about regulatons that phase put old technologies because it saves money and I understand 100 year old technologies aren't the best.

But still doesn't explain how you don't know the difference between a stove and an oven, or how phasing work or how regulating works or how technologies changes or pretty much anything for that matter. Ah Florida educations.

Deangelo is your run of the mill GOP perma-victim. Perpetually aggrieved and packing heat ready to save the day when called upon. Keep it on the level bro - nobody’s coming for your gas stove…we all need you stay a good guy.
