Karson Sharar Commits to Iowa

Congratulations and welcome to Karson!!

is this the 4th linebacker recruit in the class of ‘21? I could be wrong, but I think we are down to 5 scholarship corners next year, and none coming in at this time. I imagine that is an area in which the staff are working hard also,

Can’t understand how u don’t offer Aaron Smith (who would fill a pretty big need) over this kid. Our corners & D-line, are gonna be weak next year. Moss & Roberts starting and 4 new D-lineman. Also losing our 2 best O-lineman and 2 best WR’s. All things considered (yes, this class is rated high, but it should be,with all the in -state talent) it's time for a new staff. Ferentz is a Legend, Fry a better person, but It's just time.

You do realize we signed a massive defensive line class last year right? And we have 3 WR’s committed. I get the issue with corners but knowing Parker and Kirk, they’ll find someone.

Imagine calling for the end of the Ferentz-era over a kid with 0 P5 offers.

Whatever the Iowa coaches don't see with him, a LOT of other coaches don't see.

I am going to guess here that you had the exact same reaction when I Iowa snatched Josey Jewell away from Northern Iowa. You realize not every player has to be ready to be on the field the first time they step on it, right? You get caught up on stars/offers and don't realize coaches do this for a living - they project kids 2-3 years down the road. I for one like to let people do their job. As a mid level major basketball prospect he obviously has more than average athletic ability. I'd take my chances with him too.

Any way you slice this, it must mean Iowa isn't getting their first or second choices at this point. Not saying the kid can't be good, just saying that Iowa must be missing on everyone at this point to offer this kid a full ride.

No, it means Iowa likes the kid and sees something in him. Maybe, just maybe let the talent evaluation to the coaches, you wont look like an idiot then.

Not to be a dick but it was Luther. Farley couldn’t pull the trigger.

Anybody know if this is Lincoln Sharar's kid? Lincoln was the all-time basketball scoring leader in Iowa for a time, and played football at UNI in the 90's.

while there’s likely something to your take, if they accepted his commit at this point, they must like him an awful lot on his own merits also.
And over the last twenty years the best linebackers at iowa (and they have been several) have almost all been such commits.

Iowa saved Jewell from having to be a Norse, which was an even better benefit than going to the school that would put him in the NFL!

Seems so:

LOL We lose two of our best Offensive lineman every year to the NFL, but we always reload, we have good players like Britt in waiting, and with the kids they are signing this year the future looks good at OL. This is the time in recruiting where you try and get the best of what's left out there, and you roll the dice on kids that fit your mold just to fill out the scholly's that are left. This is where you hope to find your Desmond King or Josey Jewell. Did Chad Greenway have a lot of offers? I could be wrong, but I don't think he was highly recruited. To say, it's time to move on with a new staff when we have a top 25 recruiting class, and winning 10 games last year is a bit of a stretch isn't it? I think Kirk knows what he is doing and I'm not ready to push the panick button just quite yet because you don't think we have enough DB's committed. LOL If it's any consolation, Kirk only has a few years left on his contract. ;) I think this staff has had a good stretch since 2015.

Yes, they must. Moreover, this is still the early signing period. If they weren't sure about him, they might try to get him to hold off committing to anyone until February.

Two things stand out to me. He has great anticipation for where the play is going and reacts quickly. Also, he sticks his tackles with authority and very good form.

This gotta be Reese Morgan finding kirk a unheard of diamond in the rough again. Working hard for the good guys while retired lol

Sounds like a Nieman brothers clone to me. Welcome to the Hawkeye family Karson! Really stoked to have you on board with us. I know you are going to be a big contributor in the years to come.
