Keegan Murray named Most Outstanding Player at National Prep School Invitational Tournament

I agree with your sentiment, but hopefully the better Murray twin takes Nunge’s potential minutes. And hopefully Ogendele is ready to backup Garza. Once had high hopes for Jack, but just not sure where he fits.

That's a very shortsighted take.

Nunge had a very limited sample size. He was starting over Kriener to begin the season.

At worst case he's our backup 5 next year.

You can look at my post history. I saw Iowa practice this offseason and raved about CJ and Nunge. Nunge was a beast. Easily the 2nd best post on the team.

Look how many gave up on Connor last year and now he has the best assist to turnover ratio in the country.

You also said Pemsl should start in place of Nunge and Joe T should start in place of Connor.

The Murray boys would be the biggest recruiting story in Iowa history if they blow it up at Iowa. Just the legacy factor makes a nice human interest story for the media. The unusual path to Iowa is another nice human interest story. Blowing up as good players is just a great story.

Here's the link to their team. It looks like they play a schedule that would be much better than a HS schedule but probably not as talented as top flight AAU competition.

Having said that, they are putting up very good numbers. They've had some really big games. There is a lot of video on the pair. They look like good players that are pretty good up and down the court for their size. Can't really tell them apart but one looks taller than the other, and the taller one seems to play more inside. The other one seems more of a 3/4 depending on the lineup.
Dad Good.Why not be Stars?

Just curious, but how old are the Murrays? If they are already a year out of HS, are they really going to want to redshirt and wind up being 20 or 21 year old freshmen?

So when was that and what was the context?

Are you referring to my offhand comment during the DePaul game or something else?

He had two bad games and two solid games, excluding the last one he was injured in.

Yes he was disappointing in his first two starts but that's also a small sample size. Isaiah Moss was disappointing in half his career starts and Tyler Cook bombed in the NCAA Tournament.

To say he's not deserving of minutes when he's averaging 6 ppg and 4.6 rpg is naive, especially when the only viable backup is the oft injured Pemsl.

Losing Jack is huge because we will now be forced to rely heavily on Till if our posts get early foul trouble.

This is what I said when Nunge was injured.

These things have a way of working themselves out. Chances are someone will transfer, go pro, quit playing, or whatever. What we perceive to be the roster for next year most likely won't be, at least not exactly.

i thought being a 23-24 year old senior was pretty sweet. I would have enjoyed it more if i wouldn’t have also been a 22-23 year old senior and 21-22 year old senior.

I think you are conflating all prep schools. Bensley Joseph is on a HS prep team while the Murray's are on a post grad team.

Sometimes these teams play each other. For example, the DME post grad team lost by 50 to the IMG HS prep team loaded with 4 stars but they beat a solid IMG post grad team.

Can you (or anyone) send a link of this IMG game or even better a link to their entire schedule? I went looking for it and couldn't find it. I see there is an DME Sports Academy team who has a 3-15 record on Maxpreps and an upcoming game with Oak Hill Academy. I have a hard time believing this the correct team if they just recently won this tournament. Hopefully I have pulled up a JV team? Can someone help?

They would be the DME Post Grad Blue team.

They just beat two top 10 post grad teams in the last few weeks.

You can see some updates on the DME basketball Twitter feed.

The older the better! That much closer to their physical peak as seniors.

I don't think we'll see much from any freshmen next year. Everyone but Ryan returns from an already good team, and we get PMac, Nunge and Jordan. That really doesn't need many minutes for anyone else.

Of course, if somebody comes in and is really good that's a different situation. But which of the returning five, plus P Mac Nunge and Jordan is likely to lose minutes to one of the freshmen?

I don't think there is any way Ogundele redshirts. RK is gone and I would be shocked if Pemsl is back. And who knows how Nunge recovers. We will need him to give us a solid 10 min per game off the bench. But the rest of the freshman I would agree with you on.

I agree with this. Ogundele will play as he is a position of need but suspect in the long run will not be the most valuable recruit for this class.

I also think the Murrays will play next year as the bigger one may contribute at the 4 spot and I really don’t want to tie up 2 rides for 5 years (assuming they want to traverse through the IA Hoop program together).

I could see the twins play or redshirt.

If Nunge and Pat return then there will be limited minutes for them.

There's bound to be some attrition next year, we just don't know yet. Do Garza and Joe return? Does Bohannon transfer? Do Cordell and Connor change their priorities?

Agree the Big O is the most likely freshmen to play. We don't know what Jack will look like as Garzilla's back up at center. Certainly don't know if Cordell returns. I could see a grad transfer to a much weaker program just for PT. But Cordell's an Iowa kid and he might stick around and improve as he gets further out from the injury. But, O looks like a decent player that will need PT to improve. If Nunge is healthy, and P Mac and Cordell return minutes will be hard to come by.

I think the Murrays will play....We need some help at the forward position, a little bit of size, and they can shoot as well.

Obviously the future is not knowable. But, the chances that Connor or Jordan aren't playing Hawkeye basketball next season are too small for statistical measurement.

Luka and Joe Dub are coming back. Neither is a first rounder and I think both are team oriented guys that see the chance for a special season next year. The money is always a lure but I'd wager, indeed have wagered, that both guys will be in black and gold next year.

Here's a great story. Little Iowa. A couple of guys that have played together since they were like 12 (Jordan and Cordell), a monster named Garzilla in the middle and a group of gritty veterans take Iowa to their first conference title in 42 years. Its gotta happen someday, right?

Athletic. Yes. Skilled? That took a little time and work.

I thought he was skilled right from his redshirt freshman season.

He had his coming out party in the Hy Vee Classic when Uthoff got in early foul trouble. I think Baer had 6 blocks that game against Drake.

Interesting. Also, in theory, the Murray twins would have been class of 2019 prospects, since that's when they graduated high school.

Therefore, they appear to be 2 to 3 years older than these five individuals named on the 11 player All Tournament team:

* Bensley Joseph, 4 star PG, Class of 2021, has high interest in IOWA

* Tyrone Washington is a 4 star, Class of 2021 6'4" undecided PG

* Frankie Collins is a 4 star 6'1" PG, Class of 2021

* Jaylen Blakes is a 3 Star 6'1" shooting guard; class of 2021

* Elijah Mahi is a 2022 6'5" SG
Correction KnK’s post grad team lost to IMG’s post grad team then avenged the loss at home. Post grad team ONLY play other post grad, juco or D2 teams for the reason stated above. They are out of high school, so it only makes sense that they play other teams with post graduate players. Same thing for the showcase Keegan on the MOP, they played all post grad teams at the event.

Why would you be shocked if Pemsl returns? In talking with him he sure seems like he is looking forward to coming back.

Kris hits the game winner, has it taken away by the ref, and then watches his brother be the hero! He's a better man than I, because if the DutchFlounder ever stole my game winner, I'd probably never step on the court again.
