Kenny Arnold.

RIP Kenny. One of the most underrated Hawkeyes ever. Good enough that Bobby Knight singled him out in his post-game after Kenny's last game against IU, saying something like "He was really glad that his team didn't have to play against Kenny Arnold again." Kenny had one of the highest BB IQs of any Hawk since I have been a fan. He wasn't flashy, but could do everything on both ends pretty well. Lots of good memories.

A great Hawkeye and a fine man. I had Kenny in a class and we were in the same small group project. Not a hint of jock, just a nice guy.

As he passes, you can't overlook the deeds of Mike "Tree" Henry. He's been Kenny's biggest advocate and right hand man for years. A true teammate and friend for life.
Mike Henry is a good man.

True, one of my All-Time favorite Hawks! RIP Kenny.

Bummer. Really good guy. If there's a heaven Mike Henry is going because what he did for Kenny was angelic.
What Mike Henry provided for Kenny was above and beyond. As terrible as the events were that Kenny had to deal with, he had a tremendous supporter in Mike.
It would great if Kenny was honored with some sort of recognition event at an early game in CHA this upcoming season with Mike there to accept and get some well deserved recognition.

Kenny should have been given much more recognition than he ever received. Most don't realize that Kenny held the team together, after Ronnie and Gannon were out, while playing with a broken thumb. Without Kenny's toughness and ability to do whatever Lute asked him to do, Iowa never gets invited to the dance, and we never would have had the memories of that final-four run.

I don't think Iowa has even approached the amount of talent in the guard court since we had Lester/Arnold and yes we have had some good ones. But that combo of Lester/Arnold worked so well together and kept that team a well oiled machine. What a thing of beauty.

Prior to Ronnie's injury..the two were as good as it got & I agree maybe the best ever at Iowa...on both ends.

Kenny always had a smile on his face even with all he endured. RIP and thanks for the memories.

Iowa won a share of the Big Ten title in Ronnie's junior year with a lesser team. That was the year of MSU's national championship with Magic, Kelser and Vincent. The big ten was tough as nails (at least the top half), but Ronnie was so good that Iowa could win any game, when they were ahead coming down the stretch. Lute would just go into a four-corner offense with Ronnie as the primary ballhandler, and two senior guards (Dick Peth and Tom Norman also on the court. Other teams were basically helpless to stop it, because Ronnie was so good. There was no 3-point shot or shot clock, and if you fouled any of the 3 guards, they almost always made the free throws in the clutch. I hope that I have the years right, because my memory has difficulty remembering one year from another in the distant past.

Iowa would have had a significantly better team in Ronnie's senior year, but injuries took that away. Kenny was the perfect compliment to Ronnie. He did everything needed on both ends. I don't think there is any doubt that Iowa would have been one of the two best teams (Louisville was also great). I also don't think there is any doubt that Ronnie would have been first-team all american and one of the top picks in the following NBA draft. Sadly, we will never know how great Ronnie would have been in the NBA.

Good post, oh what would have been w/out that darn knee injury of Ronnie’s. Like many IA fans of that era, I’ll go to my grave knowing that IA would have won the national championship had Ronnie not have gotten hurt.
