Kenyon Murray thoughts

Ky Murray is spot on! That guy that left is just bad old news.

The transfer portal isn't even closed. We just signed an ESPN top 100, so eager to play at Iowa to come a year early.

I for one am willing to place some confidence in Kenyon's opinions. After all he knows the team and the game more than any of us. Hell, he's watched half the team grow up so I think Ky Murray has some unique and valuable insight.

I'll agree Fran doesn't demand defense.

He's let guys like Jok, Cook and Bohannon get away with no effort at times.

I don't think Fran could stop next years team from playing D if he tried.

Joe Tousaint and Perkins are the type of guys that D your ass up in a pick up game.

They take every bucket personal and I think Ulis will be similar. His brother was a good defender.

Keegan Murray is the most instinctually talented defensive player I've ever seen at Iowa besides maybe Ryan Bowen.

His ability to get his hands on so many things is amazing.

Having 2 Murrays on the court at once will allow Iowa to switch everything and just be extremely agressive trapping screens.

They're also going to block a bunch of shots.

With the covid transfer portal rules, is there any chance Tyler decides to join Aaron at Iowa next year?

Buddy and I were talking about the team and I said we may have some growing pains next year but I think the following season and even year after we could be good especially if JoeT sticks around for that extra year and Keagan stays to play with Kris because even before seeing mock draft felt like Keagan could leave early with his size and skill level fits so well with the NBA style these days. Plus I'm very optimistic about Kris who I think would've seen more minutes on almost any other Iowa team during the Fran era. We spoke about this depends on how our big guys develop and if we add any one in the portal. But he also brought up a good point anymore with new transfer rule have no clue who will be there on the roster a year from now which is a valid point. Do feel good about the Murray boys and Patrick for obvious reasons. I hope between Ulis and Perkins who ever sees the less minutes doesn't leave.

I don't think we are going to be as bad as some think but not seeing us as a tourney team. Think 7-10 in the conference. But never know depending on who we add in the portal (which the one thing CJ did was screw Iowa waiting so long and leading Fran to believe he wasn't going losing out on potential replacements) and the biggie is if JoeW decides to come back to be the alpha for one more year.
