Hi guys. First off...been awhile since I've posted on hawkeye report. Feels good to be back men. A new look to hawkeye report which will take some getting used to. I was the official game thread starter back in the day so I'll resume responsibilities again. Feels good to have some time off around the holidays and enjoy bowl season. I forget what it's like to have some piece and quiet. Back to the question at hand. Shouldn't we extend KF's contract? How often does a coach go 12-1? I want him around until he retires here. This has probably been discussed since the season ended so I apologize in advance, but would like to re-open the question and thoughts since I havent been here in some time. Thank you in advance.

PS

KF will be at Iowa as long as he wants now. He is 60? I would guess 5-6 more years. Brian will be ready to take over by then.
I agree. BF will slide right in and take over the reigns. I'm so glad we aren't like other cfball programs where they are constantly turning and burning

This was, without a doubt, my favorite part of your ramblings.

Also, I've been around for quite a long time myself and haven't a clue who you are?

I'd like a little history here my man. Did you just get out of prison? Divorced from a dominatrix? I mean, what gives? We'll enjoy the bio. Do you best to keep in under 2 paragraphs.

Nice to have you back Premium Scent. But I think we all still prefer the scent of a woman. (Healthy woman.)

Kirk only has 4 years after this one, and the industry standard is to automatically extend for a year so it covers at least 5. So there will be some kind of extension at the end of the season.

I can't guess how it will go. Does he simply get one more year with similar terms, since we Barta took a lot of lumps over the last few years? Does he get one more year with more favorable terms? (possibly more salary, possibly better incentives, possibly more money to assistants)

Or does he get a whole new contract after going 13-1?

did not know the industry standard is 5 years.

IMO, KF will most likely get a rolling 1 yr extension with no buyout. This keeps him locked up as long as he wants to stay while minimizing the cost associated with the gaurenteed contract. I'm guessing zero or minimal raise but lots of incentives.

No agent would agree to a contract that doesn't have a buyout. I fully agree with the rolling contract idea, and the buyout should be closer to the industry norm, versus what Barta gave Kirk the last time.

Before this season, I was thinking a rollover with same terms but reduced buyout. Now I'm thinking same terms, including buyout. Possibly larger incentives. I do think assistants get a good bump.

Can we please wait till all the games have been played before talking about extending contracts. There's a lot of football left to be played. Our OOC signature win, Pitt just got rolled by Navy. If Iowa, Wisky & Northwestern all lose, this season suddenly turns into fools gold. 12-2 with only a Division Title and no signature wins ! The Hawks need this win more than the desert needs rain. Go Hawks !!!

Kirk suddenly retires after the 2020 98-0 win over the clones and Brian takes over. Barta saves enough money on the remaining contract to build Kirk Ferentz stadium.

Agree but let's not forget how hard it is to go 12-0. This is a great HAWK team and was 1 play away from winning the title

There's only 1/13th of the football season left to play . . . not much. And Iowa already has wins over two teams that won their bowls, and it probably won't be the last. Going 12-0 during the regular schedule is already a signature season.

Both of those teams had 6-7 records not a signature season without the signature win.

Not true. Going undefeated the entire schedule is a signature season. No Iowa team has ever gone 12-0. We won the B1G west. We have all 4 trophies. We throttled Northwestern on the road, who is in the top 13. We're inches and bizarre no calls from being in the playoff. We're going to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 25 years. Signature season for any reasonable fan, especially realizing a Stanford win is in post season play.

The landscape of college football has changed 12-0 was good for a Division Title. Nothwestern still has a bowl game, we have no idea where they'll be ranked at the end. Going to the Rose bowl is not a signature win ! Depending on the outcome of the Northwestern and Wisky games, none of those 4 trophie games are signature wins ( 3 of the teams had losing records ). Is a win over Stanford is a signature win ? Hell yes ! Like it or not it's not a Signature season yet. Go Hawks

I never said going to the Rose Bowl was a signature win. That's called a straw man. I said it is already a signature season. I would say it's a signature season from the mere fact of how much expectations were exceeded. The season was so special, KF is the national coach of the year by multiple bodies.

Already two of our trophy victories are against teams that subsequently won their bowl games.

And why is a win over Stanford a signature win and others are not? Northwestern beat Stanford and has as many wins as they do. And we curb stomped Northwestern on the road a week after losing Ott, with both OT tackles out, and Canzeri gone in the 1st qtr.

Like it or not, this is already an unprecedented season for Iowa concerning wins, wins in a row, and more. We have the best defensive back in the nation since the time of Nile Kinnick. We're more than likely going to finish in the Top Ten, a signature season undoubtedly.

Those two bowl game winners had losing records ! Those wins in a row earned us a Division Title only. Yep we topped Purdue (2-10) Illi (5-7) Minn. (6-7) Nebby (6-7) Wisky ( ???) Northwestern (???) Again Northwestern isn't done playing if they get curb stomped by Tenn. I see a lower top 25 finish. That's your signature win for the season ? It not a signature season without a signature win. Sorry but beating a lower level top 25 team on the road is not a signature win. Let's hope the Hawks win and we can put this signature win crap to rest !

Even though I disagree that we don't have signature wins, your premise "It's not a signature season without a signature win" is false, thus, your whole argument fails. A season is far more complex than that, and judging it mostly on that is shallow thinking. It's like saying someone didn't have a signature batting season in baseball because they didn't have a signature home run, despite breaking the batting percentage record. It's silly. What if it ended up Iowa was undefeated and all of Iowa's wins were against winning teams, yet no one could really identify a "signature win"? The fact that all victories in an undefeated season were against winning teams is enough to have a signature season, yet it would miss your personal vital ingredient.

And it doesn't matter if the wins against teams who eventually won bowls still has them with losing seasons. Nebraska giving MSU its lone loss and then beating 8-4 UCLA in the bowl game is significant.

And I would disagree. Northwestern is done playing, whether they win or lose against TN. Perhaps you need additional punctuation to rescue your weak argument. ;) You have several silly statements.

I'll leave you with the last word on this. No doubt you have many more sacrifices to put on your "signature win" altar, lol.
