kicking game

We will find out what we have come B1G play. Not totally convinced our kicker will have the leg strength to boot those 45yard FG come late Oct and Nov. We will see as the season progresses. Punting seems to be much improved this year.

Love seeing Coluzzi bomb the touchbacks. Those will help against any dangerous return men we see.

I think you saw Kirk change his approach some last year. Going for it on 4th down has really been a high percentage play for Iowa. Their offense puts the pressure back on the defense when they go for it. There for sure will be some opportunities for a long kick, but not as much as in the past

Before the season I was very concerned about our kicking game. I'm thrilled with what we've seen to this point.

We even got to see some backups today.
Yep. Glad my optimistic posts about ST capabilities pre-season have come to pass. Keith is 100% on PATs and 1/1 on FG, I believe. Coluzzi is doing great on both KO and punting. Really happy to see Colten get a game rep (very good 42-43 yd punt) last night as well.

As others have noted, the team will need someone to step up to give us 30+ yd FG capability, especially as we enter into the B1G season and the weather cools. I'm hoping it's someone I know.

From what I've read is Duncan is rather unflappable inside the 50yd range.
He had an outstanding HS career, including hitting from 50.

Now that he's in college, however, his range has dropped, for the reasons I've previously stated. I've watched all of his warmups prior to, and at half, of both games this season. He hasn't attempted any beyond 45. All of his hits beyond 40 are barely clearing the crossbar. This is not a knock on him; I've observed over a dozen kickers transition to the college game from HS, and all have lost distance until they gained sufficient strength to overcome the less kicker-friendly balls. I think Duncan is a fine kicker, and will get stronger as he progresses through Doyle's system. i just don't think he'll be capable of hitting from 45+ in the cold, presently. Just my opinion, however, and you are certainly welcome to yours.

If we have to go for a 50 plus fg at the end of a half or something maybe Coluzzi is our man. I know it's not something we'd normally look at but maybe new Kirk likes it.

They've been rep'ing him on those for the last couple of weeks, so they're thinking about it.
