Kids Day Practice

@Franisdaman thanks for posting! Lots of similar observations I had, but for what it’s worth the following stood out to me:

1. So cliché as an Iowa fan to start off by talking about kickers, but more often than not it’s the difference maker for us. Granted the conditions were much improved from spring practice, both kickers looked solid. I’m a little more at ease with what appears to be 2 capable kickers.
2. Lukas Van Ness is a physical specimen. Noah Shannon packs a punch for being a little undersized, but just relentless and quick. In addition to the pick six, Karson Sharar stood out-seemed to naturally flow to the ball and was always around the ball.
3. Logan Jones got dinged up and sat out for a few plays before returning. Really hope he’s able to stay healthy, but given his previous injuries, anybody know much about his backup Myslinski?
4.. Extremely small sample size, but Padilla looked better IMO than Petras today. Had good chemistry with Luke Lachey and had some nice throws/catches. Neither exactly lit it up throwing the ball down field-not really a surprise there. Both Petras and Padilla were ahead of Joey Throws by quite a bit, but JL did show some nice pocket presence and showed off his wheels on a nice tuck and run. Jaziun Patterson had some good burst and looked good for a true freshman.

Excited for the season to start, just really hoping the offense has taken a step forward from last year as the defense will once again be BIG championship caliber good.

its great to hear perspectives from anyone who was there, that's for sure!

thanks for yours!

IMO, it's hard to worry much about special teams; it seems like LeVar figures it all out. He's a tremendous coach.

Myslinski got hurt today; did he return?

Thanks for the insight! Great to get football started.
Just a question for the members. And NO disrespect . Really, just curious. How in the world does our frosh RB, #9 JP, get his hair in the helmet? That bun he had yesterday was awesome! I assume he has to let it down and hanging out the back?

yeah, its gotta be hanging out back

and I forget the rule. you cannot reach and grab his hair, right? ie, that would be a horse collar?

Agreed regarding LeVar and special teams, just a position group that always seems to be solid under.

I didn’t see Myslinski get hurt, I just saw Logan Jones go out for a series after getting rolled up on, but he returned. Given his previous injuries it just made me ponder his backup and overall preparedness should Myslinski have to step in this season. Hoping we don’t have to find out!

Can confirm it was definitely hanging out. He looked good, definitely didn’t look like a true freshman back there. RBs as a whole looked solid, as talented as Goodson was, the RBs today all seemed more decisive and inclined to take what was there and drive forward-no shying away from contact, just physical downhill running.

I actually believe the rule states that the hair is an extension of the uniform and is fair game to be pulled? Maybe someone can clarify.....
yeah, i can't remember. but i could see that if the hair got pulled hard backwards, it could be similar to a horse collar.

and dang, that's gotta hurt, too

When you turn 19 before your freshman year of college starts you ain't exactly young.
That totally depends on what month your birthday falls in. My youngest could not start school until he was almost 6 because he was a Sept baby and would have been 4 when school started. Depends on the state I believe also. Obviously it did help him somewhat athletically, (to your point) being older by several months then many classmates....
