Kids of professional athletes?

That reminds me of what I have read about Chad Greenway's daughter. I believe she was starting for her varsity team in 8th grade.

Kate would have easily started last year on a senior-heavy team that won the State Championship, but 8th grader are not allowed to play above JV in the state of georgia.

My wife (no pics) was the point guard at the same school many years ago and still loves to go to the games. Even more so now that this phenom's starting.

Seeing fathers and sons or brothers seems fairly common in the NHL, at least compared to other sports. I think that's probably because hockey is a sport where starting young and getting good coaching as a kid can make a tremendous difference in the likelihood of making it to the NHL, much more than other sports. My son didn't start playing hockey until he was 6 years old and has been playing catch-up ever since, even though he knew how to ice skate decently when he started.

Best father/son combos - The Hulls, Howies. Folignos, Parises, and Stastnys.

There seem to be a lot of brothers in the NHL right now. Heck, Jack, Luke, and Quinn Hughes went #1, #4, and #7 overall in their respective drafts.

Similarly, Mychal Thompson was the top pick in the 1978 NBA Draft, but is probably not as good as Klay. Mychal Jr also played in the NBA for a short time, and the youngest brother plays in MLB.
That's a great one, I was a huge Magic Johnson fan and always a Laker fan. Mychal was a key part of two of the NBA Championships I believe. Those teams were so fun to watch.

Caleb & Seth Jones are both playing as defensemen in the NHL right now; their dad, Popeye Jones, was a pretty good NBA player for a while & is now coaching in the NBA.

Yannick Noah had a solid pro tennis career, winning a major & getting as high as #3 in the world rankings; his son, other than being a stinking gator, had a solid NBA career.

Patrick Surtain and Patrick Surtain Jr.

Like 10% of the OTs in the League.

I thought it was Randy Reiners.
I saw kris regularly and although i wasn't there he allegedly peed on the atm. The coaches had him banned from downtown bars so he often went to the bar accross the bridge by McDonald's. Not sure if it's still there.

Grandpa Ray Boone and his son Bob were pretty good, as were grandsons Aaron and Bret Boone. Ken Norton Sr and Ken Norton Jr come to mind, as does Joe Frazier and Marvis (although he ran into trouble vs Holmes and Tyson). Many people forget about Jellybean Bryant, but Kobe was one of the best ever.

The Nortons are a good one. Marvis Frazier is probably a nobody without his father's name so not sure if that's a great example, but the Mayweathers are maybe the best example in boxing.

Boxing is a tough one, because boxing is usually a sport of the poor, and most successful boxers would prefer their kids do not fight because they don't have to. But of course, there's always going to be those that want to follow in the footsteps. And a lot of successful boxers end up broke anyway.

And unlike pretty much any other sport, a guy with a "name" can be promoted and protected whether they are actually very good or not...like Marvis Frazier or JC Chavez Jr.

Leon Spinks' son Cory Spinks was a decent fighter that held a belt. Kostya Tszyu's son appears to maybe be the real deal.

This past season, Kate almost singlehandedly carried the girls to a state championship in Georgia 6A basketball (she scored 47 in the semifinals). She followed that up by playing line 2 on the tennis team which also won state.

Her brother, who just graduated, was Georgia Tech's highest-rated football recruit for the 2024 class. He's listed as a tight end, although I think he might end up playing DE. There's still a couple of younger siblings, so the athletic-freak pipeline looks to continue.......

There are a bunch in baseball right now who are young and very promising and may live up:

Cavan Biggio
Bo Bichette
Vlad Guerrero Jr
Fernando Tatis Jr
Cody Bellinger
Kody Clemens
CJ Cron
Ke’bryan Hayes
Bobby Witt Jr

That said, not all of their dads were superstars (though some were, obviously). There are more guys in the bigs that are sons of former players, but sometimes both were equally mediocre or the kid is pretty obviously not going to live up.
Vlad Guerrero Jr. will ever be the beast his dad was. One of the best all around players I’ve seen.

Agreed. Vlad Jr. has had one season of hitting at a level his dad lived at for much of his career. The rest of the time he’s paled in comparison. Also, Sr. was a far better runner and had an all-time great throwing arm. He was a true 5-tool player.

Granted it was the juice era. But he hit around 40 HR’s a year playing half his games in Expo Stadium for the beginning of his career. That place you needed hair on the bottom of your feet. To put up those type of power numbers.

Vlad Sr. was like Yogi Berra at the plate. He could modify his swing at will and hit pretty much any pitch hard. Fun guy to watch.

The Bronny James recruitment thread got me thinking. How many star athletes in the pros have kids of their own who have had similar success? Doesn’t seem like many.

Like, I remember seeing Michael Jordan’s kids on TV at one of his games back in the 90s and thinking, “Those guys are probably gonna be awesome too.” Never happened.

Ones that come to mind right away for me are Ken Griffey Jr (Ken Sr), the Manning brothers (Archie), Vlad Guerrero Jr (Vlad Sr).

Who else?
Any of Shawn Kemp's kids turn out any good?

I was watching the Australian Open (that's tennis) and Sebastian Korda was playing.

Sebastian is the son of Petr Korda. Petr Korda won the Australian Open won year, and a few other titles, and was ranked as high as #2.

Petr has two daughters and a son. The son, Sebastian, is ranked around #30 in Tennis. The two daughters are/were both on the LPGA tour. The younger daughter, Nelly, has been ranked as high as #1.

And because rules, this is Nelly Korda:

Search Nelly Korda nude and you will find she is very well proportioned indeed. Wonder if she is Slavic?

I watched Marist play their arch-rival St. Pius last night. Kate was phenomenal, as usual. I saw where she's going to be on an official visit to Iowa this weekend. Physically, she's ready right now for the WNBA. If you get her, you're getting a good one. My guess is that G. Tech and ND are the teams to beat right now.

Edit - She is going to crush it when it comes to NIL money.

Special bonus, I stayed for the boys game and Kyle Hamilton (S - Ravens) was sitting a couple of rows in front of me. That man is about to get PAID.

Hockey representing:

Brett Hull (and that's saying something)
Ron Hextall
Dustin Byflugien

TBD (but an awesome father to exceed): The Tkachuks

You're one ahead of me. If you had to pick one set, would it be:

-the Howes
-the Hulls
-the Tkachuks

(PS, looking forward to seeing the Ovechkins sometime down the line)

Plays a different position, but Shadeur Sanders could become as good as his dad.

And Charlie Woods looks like he has the potential of his dad.
