Kirk is one of the best at developing skills of the players he recruits. His players usually do quite well when they go to the pros compared to other schools. His players on defense are good tacklers, and special team play has been outstanding. He recruits players of good character, and his teams give 100 percent effort. These are the hard part of coaching and he has done a good job in this area..

Where he fails, is his play calling. He did not learn from Hayden Fry, scratch where it itches. There are some teams you can't run against, but I guess 77 yard is good enough for Kirk and Brian.

And Bowl games, does Kirk realize there is something wrong that when teams scout Iowa for Bowl games they know exactly what Iowa will do, Tennessee no world beater had 30 by half time..

developing the skills of some... of the players. You can leave out quarterbacks and wide receivers. You know...the ones that make an offense exciting, dynamic and effective.

As for the subject line...yeah. My financial planner is really good, except when it comes to making a critical decision on when and where to move my money. My Dr is really good, except when I come in presenting with acute symptoms...then he chokes. I'm really good at going through training and passing the knowledge exams...I just can't apply those things with the customer in real time.

You can leave out developing the skills of skill players. Beathard's TD was the first since Iowa QB to throw for a TD since Dan McGwire. What does that tell you about our QB's? He has totally squandered a very special back in Wadley and will likely never put a WR in the NFL ever. Even players from bad teams get drafted and stick in the NFL, so let's not pretend KF is some wizard. How many guys in the NFL came from schools you have never heard of? It's a good cover for his complete ineptness on offense, but that's about it.
